    Performance Upgrade Question...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    ...hey all,

    I'm thinking about picking up an A4 2.0T. I'd like to find one with a stick and relatively low miles...nevertheless;

I'm aware of the chips, cai's, and exhaust. However, unless I'm missing something, I didn't see "turbo" upgrades on APR's website or AWE's website.

Is there a turbo upgrade for the 2.0T Quattros?

If I am missing something, and there is, and there are some folks out there that have this...could you chime in.

The reason I'm so curious is because currently I have an '08 GTI, and it's chipped. Before this car I had an '04 B6 S4. Right now there is a guy at my work who has an '08 B7 A4 with the Titanium Package (which I can't find any in my area)...anyway, he swears by this car. Say's he'd rather have it than an S4.

    Feedback would be appreciated, thanks.

VW Touareg V10 TDI. Don't mess.

    Past: Stg. 2+ B7 2.0T, B6 A4 1.8T, Allroad 2.7T 6spd (<-monster), Chevys, Jeeps, and a Nissan.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take the wall with you, Body kits and decals are how much of a mess you leave on the wall.

Why not just build up your GTI? same engine only mounted differently.

    My guess - it's FWD.

I miss the hell out of my AUDI. In fact, recently, I almost traded my GTI for an '05 S4 but the deal went sour.

So I figured, an A4 would be the next best thing...modified of course.

Not to mention, FWD compared to AWD is really no comparison. And, because of all the accolades in the Automotive Magazines, I went with the DSG in the GTI. Which I've determined takes the fun out of driving.

No matter how great the automanual is, and the DSG is awesome, it's not a stick.

Plus, I'd rather slap a turbo upgrade on an AWD A4 than a FWD GTI.

Keith, thanks for this, I actually saw that already but the years that it specifies on that web page are up to 2006. That made me think it wasn't applicable to an '07 or '08.

A little off topic... I'm glad you said that. DSG may shift quicker than a manual and be a little easier on the racetrack, but I'm willing to be slower as long as I still have my clutch. I recently had an A3 loaner with tip and paddle shifters (I know it's not DSG, but it's close enough) and while it was nice to have auto in traffic, I would much rather have a clutch to work and a gearbox to row through than just have to click two buttons. But that's just all a matter of personal preference I guess...

Oh yes, sorry you are correct.

The hardware fits perfectly to an 07 but the ecu's are different. We would like to receive a customer's car for a great deal on the Stage 3 and free installation if we can have the client's car for 2-3 weeks to develop the calibration for the 07+ models.

    Three words:

    GET THE B7!

You will not be disappointed. (ok, it was more than three, but whatever!)

EDIT: Also, as more and more people have warranties going void, I think that means more and more limits will be pushed with modding and such.

I have to test drive one first. My only worry or concern about that is - I will compare it to my S4. That sure was a great car that I regret getting rid of.

I'll let you all know when I drive one. In my area, there aren't a lot of good ones. Obviously I want an S-Line. The only one close to me that's worth while is an '06 with 28k miles on it. I'd really like to get my hands on an '08 with a Titanium package like my co-worker. But I have to travel 250 miles to get one of those.

    Re: Performance Upgrade Question...

If you plan to mod the car heavily, I am one to think the S-line is not really necessary. Compared to the extra dealer costs you may face, it's not really worthwhile.

As soon as you mod the suspension, which you definitely should, the only performance aspect of the S-line package in the stock sport shocks/springs is gone.

I guess it all depends on the aesthetic preference, and how much value/weight you put on the different front end and interior/exterior badging.

Compared to an S4, it will definitely not have as much go, but I think the stock brakes on B7's came from either a B5 or B6 S4 - at least in that dept. you should feel right at home, lol.

Let us know what you think!

    Re: Performance Upgrade Question...

There is a lot more to the s line package than just the suspension. Asthetics have a lot to do with it. Door sills, badging outside the car, different grill, different interior, different shifter, steering wheel, wheels. The point is that no matter what you are doing to the car its better that the car comes with the goodies from Audi (warranty, etc.) i also think why not get it all done already it cuts the mod time down considerablely. Eitherway any A4 is great but if you can get the s line, do it.

Which is why I said it depends on the weight/value you place on the aesthetics.....and also, aside from door-blades, the grill and some badging, it really doesn't cut down on mod time. The stock sport suspension, while being lower than non-sport stock, still doesn't shake a stick to the performance of an aftermarket suspension setup. Once you redo the suspension, it is totally accurate to say that the only "performance" aspect of an S-line is now done away with.

I'm not saying S-line is bad, but if this guy is asking about big turbos and stuff, it is safe to assume he is going to be in general modding the car a lot. Why spend more at the dealer when you can get essentially the same car (again, not counting the aesthetics only) and put the money saved on non S-line towards those mods? I'd advocate that in this particular case, a non S-line is actually going to lead to faster modding through saved green.
