08 RS4 or 09 S4...looking for opinions.

Gentlemen,
I have an 07 BMW 335i (for sale) that I love but I am very interested in an 08 RS4. Should I wait for the new B8 S4 or purchase an 08 RS4. I really like the looks of the B7...but I'm not sure about buying a model year that's being replaced and buying a new B8 RS4 will most likely be to much money. I've thought about buying another 335 in an xi version because of the snow here in Montana but I have to drive 3 hours for any kind of service...which gets really old! Any thoughts on the Audi's would be greatly appreciated.

I reckon you'll find that the answers on the thread will be 10 RS4 votes for every 1 S4 votes. Just a hunch, but the RS4 is truly special, and is held in the highest acclaim on Audizine

the nice thing about the RS4 is that you can have one now, whereas B8 S4 is not here till September-ish

the other nice thing is that the RS4 is finished and thus rare as hell...and they're not likely to make another one for another 6 years (Audi have indicated they'll make RS5, but not 4 in B8)

There will be no B8 RS4.

RS4 is a great car but the new S4, with a few mods, is going to be pretty hard to beat. The S4 is a nicer car all around except for the exhaust note.

Then he should wait, car prices will continue to drop, and that way he can be sure what he likes best. That is what I would do.
335Xi does not feel anywhere as nice as a 335i, the steering is heavier, and the car does not feel as good.

Clearly all of our opinions are theoretical since none of us has driven the new S4, but I bet the new S4 ergonomics are way better (judging from B8 S5) and will be way more comfortable, but a screaming V8 at 8250 rpm is hard to beat...

If you like to stay new and want a tuneable car that will put a smile on your face perf/looks-wise, head down the road of an s4.

If you want to hold a piece of one of the most amazing looking/performing cars Audi has ever built, rs4 is your ticket.

The torque vectoring diff in the B8 S4 would be enough to make me choose the B8 S4 over a B7 RS4. Well, at least wait to make a decision. Power is great but I'll bet the B8 S4 will be a better handling car all around. I can't wait to try it out.

Yeah the C63 was on my list, along with an M3 but I want an AWD and the nearest MB dealer is 3 hours away. One of the few downfalls of living in MT.

that's true, but if you were to hear from people who HAVE driven both (magazine writers) you'd be surprised. They all seem underwhelmed with the new S4. Good, not great. Clinical, not exciting. Most bleat on about missing the V8. I think you'd have a tough time finding anyone's opinion that the B8 S4 can hold a candle to the B7RS4. I'll search the majors...but I've already read them and I think I already know what the answer will be. Normally aspirated 420hp...aluminum front end for weight distribution...not to mention the best stock sound ever. I really just love that car.

Drunk driver hit the car while it was parked on the street. There rear of the car and the entire drivers side was demolished. The idiot was driving a Escalade.

personally i would prefer the RS4. I would rate the B8 S4 and RS4 in different style. I love the interiors, seats and headlight of B8 however they look so much like a family car =[ Its all depends on your taste

False, as much as I love the RS4 it is front heavy, stick shift only, and although its gets pretty decent mpg, it won't be able to compete with the S4 with the same power to efficiency ratio. With the S4 you get more balance, S-Tronic(that alone has me sold) and hopefully even the first models will have the all new MMI system. And mod speaking theres obviously going to be a whole slew of mods which will eventually become available to the S4 vs the RS4. Additional leg room in the rear is a nice touch. I'd get the RS4 and I lived in Germany with access to the Autobahn as that is obviously where the RS4 will excel, living anywhere else with speeding laws I'd go S4 all the way.

exactly. so many people are quick to discredit the B8 S4 due to the reported peak hp number. If you looked closely at the torque and power curves for the RS4 and S4, that gap would suddenly seem a lot smaller or insignificant. Add to that the S4 should be more agile. RS4 only has an advantage over the current 4.2 S4 at the most extreme top end. Still an amazing car, but definitely wait to drive both.

Personally, I love the look and the sound of an RS4 so...definitely RS4 if it came to my choice.

Don't me wrong on the B8 S4 though, I'm sure it will be nice. Audi doesn't put out crap cars no matter how you look at it, especially with the S4 line getting better with each new model.

I don't think you can go wrong either way, but keep in mind that usually there are some issues with any brand new model of the car that comes out, as with any new electronics that come out on the market. With the RS4, you would know what you are getting and what the issues potentially will be before you even purchase the car.

The RS4 is actually 317 ft/lb of torque, so no one ever thought that it ever had more torque than the S4. in the end though, it is still 420hp vs 333.

RS4>S4 all day and all night, ergonomics be damned. As if the current RS4 is such an uncomfortable car to drive...

Since the release of the RS the newest S4 has been pushed back from a top tier performance sedan to a upgraded A4. Audi marketing wont allow in house competition for the RS4. Newer is not better when it comes to the new S4 and the current pecking order of Audi.

RS4 all the way. The 335i, S4, C63 and M3 are all fast cars but the RS4 is special. It's just a great balance of everything, it can drive in any condition, fast in a straight line and handle almost any turn. I think the RS4 is the best all around car you can find. RS4 FTW

What the Christ are you smoking? The B6 S4 was a huge let down and not much changed with the B7 S4 which is why they brought out the B7 RS4. The B8 S4 is the first time they've gone in the right direction since the B5.

I can't wait to see what kind of mods they come up with for the new B8 S/C V6 S4.

What are you talking about? In 04 it WAS their top performance sedan and the only reason that changed is because they released the RS4 here in NA for the B7 lineup.

The B8 S4 is a huge improvement from the V8 they had in there before.
