    Help deleting service light

hey, i got my 05.5 a4 a few months ago. it had 26,### miles on it. now its got 31,### and iv got the red wrench "needs service" check engine light. i called the local dealership and they told me that the car does not need to be serviced until 36###. i asked if i could come in so they could remove the annoying wrench and they said "no, not until we actually service the car." i got a OBD2 code reader from a friend in hope of deleting the code/light myself, but now i cannot find the reader holder near my knees were it usually is in most cars.

i guess my question is how can i remove that annoying service light myself.

If it's just the service light, you don't need the obdII reader.

I forgot how to do it, but it's something along the lines of:
    1. Turn key to ON, but don't start car.
    2. Hold the wrench button on your gauge cluster and don't let go
    3. Turn key completely off but leave it in the ignition
    4. Turn key to ON, but don't start car. Then let go of the wrench button

I can't remember, a tech told me a while ago... sorry

Just did it when my 05.5 hit 50K...

    1. Key in the ignition, but don't turn it yet.
    2. Hold down the wrench button.
    3. While holding that button, turn the key to the on position (don't need to start the car)
    4. Let go of wrench and hit the 0,0 button

    Voila, manual reset

Haha, yeah, I guess... You were telling him to use the right tools, just in the wrong order. Good job...

P.S. - To the OP, once you do this, the indicator defaults to --- for whatever shows up on the screen. The computer then determines when your next service should be according to your driving habits (according to the book, but I think that's a load of bull). Regardless, it comes back eventually, don't worry about it.

    Re: Help deleting service light

the rep at audi told me they had me on a 5,000 mile interval, but it think thats because i am putting a lot more miles on the car than the previous owner. they got the service done on the time basis, not mileage. so i know it needs servicing at 37,###. thanks for the tips guys.

just curious, were is the obd2 port?

Drivers footwell, near the hood release... LOOK for it, with your eyes, the first time. You won't find it by feeling around for it... I tried that for a few minutes...
