VIS Racing body kit, need advice instaling front bumper

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I bought a VIS Racing ("RS4" knockoff) Full Body Kit. The rear bumper and side skirts went on quite nicely and with minimal fitment issues. the front bumper however, has me perplexed. It is nothing more than a fiberglass shell with no mounting points... I have my factory bumper taken apart down to the crash bar (which is cut and modified, bracketry and re-designed structural elements welded/bolted to accomodate BIG ass FMIC)
Now the nifty snap fit parts are seperated from the bumper cover, and the bumper cover is cut down to where it almost fits within the new fiberglass "bumper"

I'd like to know how others have mounted and installed these things.
I've narrowed it down to a few options from what I can figure out, but am far from certain which is the best course to take

-A. fiberglass the OEM structural plastic (snap together mounting system from original bumper) inside the new fiberglass bumper (shell), hope I have it right and that it hasn't warped out of position. -install as the original installs

-B. hotglue, chem caulk and or poly adhesive the new bumper shell over the original bumper (new 'glass bumper is the same size as the OEM, so if I install "over" the OEM, it isn't long enough Cut the original's ends down? cut the original in the center removing about an inch of overall length???) -aye caramba! what a mess!)

-C. redesign an entirely new mounting system (for which I haven't a clue where to begin) The advice I've rec'd from the manufacturer and seller constitutes "screwing" the new shell on -to what I have no idea, as I can't find any suitable locations for "screwing" the new fiberglass shell on, and without some structural reinforcement underneath, there's no way this is going to hold up under normal use...
Whatever I end up doing, I think reinforcing this thing with a couple more laminations of fiberglass is absolutely mandatory...

Perhaps you know a better way???

I'd sure appreciate any advice for getting this fiberglass "bumper" installed as best as it can possibly be installed.
    thanks in advance!

PS i know... polyurethane, Rieger Racing and so on, but that's out of the question. I need to install what I have for now

Re: VIS Racing body kit, need advice instaling front bumper

here's the new "bumper" pulled over the trimmed down OEM bumper

    here's the OEM structural parts

as you can see, pulling the new one over the top of the OEM urethane is going to pose some obstacles

Surely I'm not the first B5'er to install one of these
+ any advice or even links will be greatly appreciated

Time to run to the hardware store to pick up some aluminum stock to make some brackets.

i don't know about the whole "using the old bumper" idea. there's gotta be a way to make new brackets, while removing the old bumper shell......

just wont look right, (or fit right) if you put it over the oem shell......

glue it to the reinforcement bar and then one screw in each fender. take off the old bumper just leave the bar.

Re: VIS Racing body kit, need advice instaling front bumper

I'd say you should sell it and just find a used reiger ABS bumper....the problem with these fiberglass RS4 knock-off is that it requires a TON of work to get it to fit, which will involve additional fiberglass to essentially remold the bumper....I bought one of these 3 years ago had planned to mount it. But every bit of information I found on it was too discouraging (some ended up paying several hundreds to body shops to get them to fit, and they STILL didn't look right).....cuz it seems like your problem is that the bumper isn't lining up with the fenders, and even if you made brackets, it would still stick out a fair amount.......Sorry if this isn't helpful at all, but its just an idea. Sell that thing on AudiForums, like I did, and find an ABS plastic one

This is what you need to do. Keep the bumper support on. Put some strong adhesive on it. Place the bumper into the spot that you want. Then tape it to your car with painters tape till the glue cures. Take off tape, put one screw on each side up into the fender. Process complete.

Is it the fact that I've been gone for a little while or does anyone else notice that Starting is back?

Damn, last time I remember hearing from you was when you had to quit your widebody thread due to some necessary time off.

Re: VIS Racing body kit, need advice instaling front bumper

    Get rid of it.

Drilling hole in your fenders is a chep-out, and just encourages rust where the screws go in.
Besides, the fibreglass will eventually crack where the screws hold it to the fenders, unbelievable the amount of vibration the front end of a car suffers in everyday use.

It's not uncommon for folk to try saving a buck, buy cheap knock-off fibreglass, then spend so much time trying to get it right, or paying a shop to do so, it ends up costing more than a used OEM S4 bumper, and sometimes as much as a new one.

Re: VIS Racing body kit, need advice instaling front bumper

    Thank you for the advice.
I used the original rebar, made some reinforcement bars (3 per side) and fiberglassed a 5" piece of 1/2' x 1/2" box tube in each end ( "ear" ) and devised a clamping / mounting system to attach to the fenders. from the point of reading replys, and starting over on the front "bumper" I have about 2 1/2 hours invested in this piece of crap, but it looks OK for now.

And "For Now" is about as long as the fiberglass kit is going to stay on my car... I have bigger fish to fry, before purchasing a complete Rieger kit (which is what I really want on the car) like finishing up my turbo install -no cheaping out there In fact, here's a pic of my new snail to give an idea as to where my priorities lie ( and why my budget is so shot to shit, that I ended up putting a $220 fiberglass body kit on my car

thanks again for all the help guys!

By the way, the Rieger kit... HOW do the parts attach? do they come as "shells" like the VIS kit I bought? or do they have structural elements just like the original pieces?
are the rear bumpers "half add-ons" or are they complete replacement bumpers?

Wow that looks great. I have a similar bumper in storage, I think I might install it after all.

Re: VIS Racing body kit, need advice instaling front bumper

    Horrible kit.
Ordered one when I got in a wreck. VIS Racing is a joke. Had so many issues I kept the sideskirts because I do like the style, and sent everything else back.

$220 for the kit? Maybe we're thinking of a different company. Exact skirts I have though.
