under 400 is not going to bump that hard no matter what. try to find a used alpine type x or a jl12w7. pair it with a memphis, alpine, jl, pretty much any good amp and you are set. i would recomend trying to go for like 750rms

Look on craigslist. Just make sure whatever you buy works before you buy it. My friend got his whole set up for like $200 bucks. You can find some great deals on craigslist. He got 2 12" rockford fosgate subs, 1000 watt rms each, with a 1600 watt amp, and a dual 12" bandpass box with that deal. And it was all practically brand new equipment. They were a year old but they looked straight out of the box.

Re: what should i do with my subs?

the 12 will for sure hit low bass hard and give you a really nice rumble. But as far as overall sound quality goes, a good set of 10's will hit the range of sounds better with higher overall quality. I've noticed that 10's have a lot less rumbling or vibrating usually. But 12's hit harder for sure. Me and my friend compared his 2 10" JBL's with my 2 12" pioneer subs and my pioneers weren't as crisp but they were louder.

think of it this way, with 2 10" subs you're pushing 20" of air. with a 12" you're only pushing 12" of air. depending on what the excursion of each subwoofer is, i'd say you have a better chance with the 2 10" subs. you have to make sure you have the right size, power, and volume of air for the sound you want.

    he only wants one sub.

get this: its 300 so use the other 100 to make yourself a nice box.

the alpine type x is more of an audiophile speaker. if sound quality is important as well as hard hitting bass, get it

Re: what should i do with my subs?

i work at car toys (one of the leaders in mobile electronics) .. you will not get the same bass with 1 12" as opposed to 2 10".. a 10" sub (for lack of a better term) has tighter bass, because it only uses the higher of bass frequencies, as for a 12" will dip down much lower. now as far as output. the guy up there^^^ had it right..two 10"s will be LOUDER than 1 12". it really depends on what your looking for.

if your used to 2 10" you mightbe dissapointed going with a single 12" ... go overkill.. well not overkill but do more than youd like because 9 times out of 10.. youll get used to it and want more. then your out another box and possible another amp.. if you get more than your looking for.. you can turn it down.. if you dont get enough and your not happy.. your kind of SOL.

id say stick with 2 10" subs.. build a custom box for them.. maybe fiberglass pods in each side??

or do what i did.. 4 12" subs..

haha i'm sorry but it's more like one of the leaders in shitty customer service. Every time i've ever gone to any cartoys they usually aren't very helpful and a lot of the guys don't really know what the hell they are talking about. Not saying all cartoys are like that everywhere, but everyone of my friend's who knows anything about audio or cars tends to steer away from cartoys unless it's a last resort.

But i don't know if he'd be disappointed with one 12. I'm sure it wouldn't be loud enough for him, but the amount of low rumble he would get might help balance that out.

In my experience i've liked the sound of 12's better than 10's though. Now if you want you could do 2 10's and 2 12's haha. Get a mix and get the best of both worlds. But that would be too expensive for your budget unless you could wait a little while.

    That is wrong.

Subs are round so you use area, not length.

    Area = pi * radius * radius

The area of one 10" is about 314 square inches.

The area of two 10" is about 628 square inches.

The area of one 12" is about 452 square inches.

I pretty much second everything seatown has been saying. I currently have 2 type x's. Before I put them both in I ran one on its own and before that I ran 2 600w rms MB quarts. The single type x could handle more power than the MB's and they were rated for more power. Let alone the fact that I can actually play tighter bass and the response is still pretty decent.

    check these out...
I got the MOFO 12 sub and the OV1-4000 D amp (didnt need this much power, but who cares... it was only 40 or 50$ more than the smaller amps)...

This sub thumps man... better than anything I have ever had, and I use to rock some crazy systems when I was younger...
for the $$$$ you cant beat it...
got it off e-bay... amp and the sub came to just over $400... I still cant believe the quality for the $$$!
This sub is by far the best sub I have ever had and the amp, although alittle big is awsome!
Only downfall... the 12" sub requires at 2.4 (mine is 2.1) cuft of volume... alittle bug, but when you see the magnets on that sucker you will understant!

    good luck!

Be carefull you don't cancel each sub out when firing accross the trunk! Need to angle the subs away from each other some.

Speaker Size depends on you choice of Music -
    10" rock, country, alternative, rap
    12" rap, low bass

I say do 3 10" jl Audio W3 or W6- small sealed box firing into the trunk, loud and sounds awsome

    or

2 10" ported box firing into the truck, and ported thru the rear deck @ 34hz (helps get a little lower bass)

    or 12" sealed

I got into this one late... Thanks for clarifying this Greg!...I was just about to

    To the OP:

If you're looking to save space with a single 12 in the side... See profile pics. If you'd like to hear it, let me know if you're ever in socal.

As far as budget, I've never spent more then $200 on a sub. If you're truly looking to go no-holds-barred loud...then please read this part: It's not about the sub. It's all about the enclosure.

I have two type r 12's sounds just right to me. But if u wanna spend sum cash get the type x alpine. and a mono amp. and dynmat. U can utilize ur space and still have sum room in the trunk it u just do sum planning and polyfill for the box.
