    Tragedy at the car wash

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I live in northwest suburbs of chicago and i decide to get a car wash at shell gas station since it was a nice day out and i needed gas anyway. well at the end of the wash it rips my antenna off. good thing is that they are paying for the damages. Question is can the o4-05 cooler lookin antenna fit and work with my 03 audi? will post pics later as soon as i get off work

That's unfortunate, but nice they're replacing it for you.

    Now the real question...

Why are you taking your Audi through a car wash that has brushes and stuff like that, that can rip off your antenna and have rocks in the brushes to scrape your paint. Hand wash that beautiful car!

Re: Tragedy at the car wash

Easier when it isn't minus "x" degrees outside in the middle of winter. I always handwash in the summer months, but either I'm too lazy or its too cold outside and I don't have a heated garage...

Noticed this happened in Chi town (used to live there) and it has been pretty nasty outside.

Don't most carwashes state they are not responsible for damage?

Re: Tragedy at the car wash

Ha ya I usually hand wash it myself but its darn cold out. I wont be going to a car wash probably ever again. Although anyone know about the fin looking antenna from like 05 if it will work with my 03? Since mine is the skinny thing sticking up I want to see if I can get the other ones since I'm getting a new one anyway.

Re: Tragedy at the car wash

When it's cold out I take my car to the car wash that has the wand you feed quarters into. Yea, it's not as good as a nice hand wash, but it's better than nothing. Whatever you do, don't use the foaming brush though. That thing is TERRIBLE for your paint. I only use the spray wand.

Re: Tragedy at the car wash

Seems like a factory defect, rather than a bad carwash. The sharkfin is low profile so it had to be loose already for a carwash to rip it off. Either way your damages are being covered so that's cool.

it's a good idea to get all that nasty salt and dirt off the paint at least a few times during the winter

dont u have any of those touch-free places up by you? they're a good get-me-by inbetween hand washes...or during those weeks when weather is unpredictable...

I always hand wash it in nice weather, during the winter I just spray it down from time to time to get the salt off. I washed my car down today and it didn't take me more than 3 minutes.

Why does everyone like the external "shark fin" antenna so much? I never understood the necessity for it either. I love the fact that my '02 doesn't have any "fins" sticking out of it's beautiful lines.

THIS IS A FACTORY ANTENNA, PM me i have one extra of the same style. And yes the others do fit, this antenna was for the cars in 02/03 with the motorola V60 package, i had this i swapped it, the only difference is that the new ones have more wires due to the fact they double as GPS antennas these don't

Because he lives in friggin CHICAGO. It is damn cold in the Midwest in the winter! In the winter I always try to find carwashes with touchless drying to keep the blowers from dragging on my car. Other than that, I figure it is better to risk a little scuff than have so much salt on it the black car looks light grey.
