Clutch wont disengage after stage 3 install

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Alright so the car is completed finally, I try to move the car and when i push the clutch it won't disengage. The pedal is sitting close to the floor and I can feel a fair amount of resistance but it just wond disengage the clutch. What could be the problem? I'm going to try bleeding the slave and maybe replacing it if that dosen't work. any ideas experiences?

Can you engage all gears with the car off?

    How about with it on?

If you can get into all gears with it off, but have a lot of difficulty getting it into 1st and especially reverse with it on, then it's the forks on your pressure plate.

if it goes in gear with car off, and not while running its the slave cylinder.

Re: Clutch wont disengage after stage 3 install

Sounds like you didnt put your slave in properly. So your clutch isnt disengaging when you hit the peddle.

Also, did you feel resistance when you put the slave into the hole in the tranny? It should of went in a little then you have to use a good amount of force to push it in the rest of the way. Also you should feel the fork in the hole with your finger. If you can angle your self at like a 35 degree angle down from the hole, you should be able to see the cup that the end of the slave goes into.

trans may have to come back out, like the last post said if you did not get the slave in properly & you stepped on the clutch(let me guess it was heavy & then dropped) you may of shot the rod out of the slave & its jammed! post what you find

When i stepped on the clutch it clicked 3 times on the way down to the floor then came back half way, where it stayed. It never dropped to the floor it just stayed at the half way point where it still seemed to function. It still has lots of pressure when pushing the pedal to the floor but it just dosen't disengage. I don't think the rod shot out because it still acts like it used to before the stage 3 swap just doesn't have the same range of motion to it.

Yeah there was lots of resistance, I had to get my dad to push it it while I tried to thread the bolt, eventually we had to wedge a small pry bar behind it in order to get enough force to seat it.
i felt the fork and everything as well.

transmission does not need to be removed to install a slave cylinder.

It happened to me when i got my motor back in. I pushed the clutch in and nothing. I called up a friend to help me bleed the clutch and everything was good afterwards.

Use a power bleeder in addition to a buddy pumping the pedal. It took me 1.5hours for the clutch alone. It's a pain.

It def sounds like you put in the slave in correctly. So I would say you need to bleed the system more. I would gravity bleed it over night then do the pump way after that.

Is it possible to reach the slave without pulling the engine forward? I just put everything back together I really don't want to pull it apart again.

unbolt the subframe rear bolts. let it drop as much as you can... put an engine hoist on the heads and a jack under the oil pan. access the slave cyl from the drivers side wheel well. thats how i did mine
if youre not bleeding it correctly it will take forever.
it takes 2 ppl. pump clutch, hold to floor, open valve on slave, repeat. should pressurize with in 10 minutes. oh and keep fluid topped off

Re: Clutch wont disengage after stage 3 install

ok well i figured id just jump in on this thread instead of starting a new one.

today i went out for a rip after installing a set of tracksport c/o's into my car. i headed out to the twisties for some fun ( i live near the mountains) all was pleasent until i came to a big straight and decided to try some launches and 1-2-3 shifts... i went thorugh the gears about 3 times and all was fine. when i stopped to go for a 4th run i couldnt get the car into any gear.

at first i thought something in my shifter assembly had come loose, as i just installed jhm shifter and linkage at the same time as the tracksports. i shut the car off and it went into gear. so holding the clutch in i started the car and even though the clutch was depressed it still seemed as if it was in gear when starting..

anyhow after crusiing for a bit in third and playing with it i realized it was not my shifter that was loose it was definately the clutch not disengaging.. so now after reading this thread im guessing it has something to do with my slave cylinder. i know it was properly installed as it was working fine up until this point... do they just die? or could it have become loose and pooped out? trying to get some ideas before i start pulling things apart...

    cheers!!!

Re: Clutch wont disengage after stage 3 install

Could be that after a bunch of launches some air ended up in the slave, best thing to do is to bleed it and see if the problem changes. If the slave pops out or goes bad your pedal would be on the floor.

yea see my pedal feels perfectly fine.. it goes in and out all the way in both directions... ??? where exactly is the bleeder screw for the clutch? right on the slave cylinder itself??

Yes its right on the slave. If this doesn't change anything it could also be that the top of the throw-out bearing broke causing it to be shorter and this would mean the fingers are not being pushed in far enough to release the disk.
