Is it a PITA to take off the fan thats attached the pulley on engine?

I have to take the fan off to grind a little bit of the back of the fan thats hitting my IC hose.

I checked Bently and they say I need an open end wrench and a special tool. Do I need such a special tool.

Also they tell me to put it in service mode(they always say you have to) Do I really?

you do need the tool, or a similar alternative, and you do need to put your car in service mode. not that big of a deal though. It only takes about .5-1 hour to pull the bumper and lock support. you don't have to fully remove the lock support, just pull it out far enough to gain access to the fan clutch. the tool holds the pulley while you break the flange nut loose on the fan clutch.

Thanks. I actually just got in there with a dremel. I didn't want to put it in service mode b/c the last time I did that was when I installed my IC and it was a PITA getting those RS6 ic to fit in there.
