    POST YOUR MILEAGE! (4.2 V8 S4 only)

    I've heard a bunch of different reports on mileage, so I thought I'd start a simple poll. The 'measure' will be the car's computer...most notably the 'average MPG' function for the computer that runs long term without resetting. On my 2007 I think it's #2...the #1 computer resets every day.

    Some will be super low because of all city/all aggressive driving...some will be too high because of all highway driving. Doesn't matter, because we're polling a bunch of drivers, so we should get a good enough data pool to give us all an idea where we stand.

    I've differentiated between TIP and MT6. This will also serve as a 'what transmission do you have' poll, since we differentiated.

    Just round to the nearest answer (i.e. 14.4 = 14; 16.5 = 17). I average 16.8 mpg...so 17.

    I never pay attention, i just try to walk more and drive less to save on fuel. Unless i'm in the mood for some fun of course.

    The meter says 21.8 but that must be because the previous owner drove like a grandma, I get about 15, but who cares I didn't buy my car because it was cost effective, I bought her because she is a B6Bomber

    I average about 16.7 or so. Almost always falls in the 15-17 mpg range. I do a mix of city and HW miles, and commute around 70 miles daily. Tip here.

    I think my #2 display is showing somewhere in the 14-15 range, but I'm not sure. I don't even pay attention to MPG anymore. I do know that I can consistently get 300+ miles to a tank on the highway while running 80+, and an actual calculation has shown close to 22 MPG.

    According to the trip computer I average about 17.5-18ish mpg on a 6MT, granted I lug the engine in like 5th or 6th the whole time except for when I wanna have some fun.

    Re: POST YOUR MILEAGE! (4.2 V8 S4 only)

    Are those trip meters right on the Audi right on the money or they guesstimate?

    I always divide whatever distance I traveled since last fill up by the number of gallons it took to fill it back up.

    I just did it the other day with an 08 Lexus LS600h. The trip computer said 14.7mpg (and it gets reset every time I fill it up) but I got 18.5mpg using my method.

    I think the trip computer is pretty realistic for miles travelled, but not for the estimate of what you're going to get out of what is left in the tank (that's always very optimistic it seems)

    in city/highway - horrible/horrible.

    But I knew the moment I bought a V8 car, I forfeited my right to complain about gas prices and consumption.

    edit: actual MPG is probably around 14-15 in the city and 19-20mph on highways. 2005 B6 S4 Tip.

    I average just over 200 miles before I refill. Could push it more, but don't want to suck up any sediments. Running 93 octane from Shell only.

    usually with all my highway driving to work and back i can squeeze about 280-320 out of the tank depending on the temp/weather....

    so far the posted extremes are

    HIGH - 19.7
    LOW - 14.7

    all these 'sometimes' and 'one time' are excluded...we're going for 'long time' average

    a bunch of people have answered the poll at 13 or below (but haven't posted)

    another interesting thing, the tips are outnumbered 2 to 1 still, however 4 people have answered 13 or below while only 3 MT6 owners have answered 13 or below.

    So tips are the worst at the exteme, but better overall? Weird.

    if sediment is more dense than petrol, and sits at the bottom of the tank, I've got news for you...your car is constantly sucking it up...it's not like the car pumps fuel from the top of the tank only...

    I agree 100%..

    By the way i would be ten times more concerned about premature fuel pump failure than i would be with sediment, if i constantly ran my tank down past a 1/4 or 1/8th of a tank.

    2008 MT6. 3,700miles. 4-6 miles roundtrip every day to work. Takes 13-15 minutes to get to work with all the stop signs and traffic lights. 4th, 5th, and 6th gears get almost no use at all. I average ~10-11mpg according to the trip computer. Think I've seen as low as 7mpg on the display when playing.

    I too have never understood the sediment argument. I usually just try to keep my tank full since my s4 is my pleasure vehicle.

    Yeah, I've seen fuel tanks after they'd been drained (50k to 100k miles on the vehicle) and I don't see sediment anywhere but OUTSIDE the tank.

    I have seen dirty-as-hell fuel filters. = )

    I track my mileage based on miles between fillups using a program called "Ultimate Car Desktop." Display usually reads about 3-4 mpg higher than actual.

    My average MPG is 16.45 over 2200 miles (mostly city driving).

    The lowest i've ever got mine was like 5 mpg. With the new motor, i average about 18 - 20 mpg. Not the best, but not the worst either.

    I track mine in Excel - write the mileage on every fillup receipt and calc mileage between fillups as well as average. Not 100% accurate, but I trust it as much as the car readout.

    Min = 10.9
    Avg = 14.7
    Max = 21.0

    Qualifier: Most of my driving is city driving, stop light to stop light, short distances, moderate to aggressive driving style.

    Because unlike you who lives in Colombia Maryland w/ a population of 97k, i live in Atlanta which is in the top ten of cities with the highest population, and #1 on the Forbes list of 10 worst cities for traffic..

    No. 1: Atlanta, Ga.
    Here, in the fastest-growing city in America, more people flood the roadways than the infrastructure can handle. Commuters spend 60 hours a year stuck in traffic, second only to those in Los Angeles. If that weren't bad enough, Atlanta is so spread out that only 29% of drivers get to and from work in less than 20 minutes, the third worst rate in the country, and 13% spend more than an hour getting to work, the fourth worst rate in the country. The local train system doesn't service the entire city, and thus fails to relieve the pressure

    5 million people in Atlanta? I thought it was tiny...like 500,000

    I've driven the S4 in a TIP and it's fine. I don't like the 'you're not driving if it's not manual' mentality. Tell that to Ferrari F1 transmission F430 drivers.
