    New Owner of a C6 A6

    Hey Guys,

Just bought a 2005 C6 A6 this week. So cruisy compared to the 2.0t.
Anyway the first thing I want to do is throw on some mags as it has really ugly stock wheels that are way too small for the size of the car. Now I'm thinking 19" or 20" but not sure. I dont want it looking ghetto but at the same time I dont want to lower it as this is the "comfy" car but figured bigger rims will fill the wheel gap without needing to drop it. Anyone who has either 19's or 20's, if you could let me know things like what difference you noticed in the ride & handling and post any photos you may have, I'd really appreciate it

Also been researching stuff like the Dension Gateway 500 mod for the MMI.

    Anyway thanks in advance

hey, welcome to the board. grats on your new purchase. personally, 19-20" rims without lowering will not look very good. personally, id go with an oem look if you dont want to lower and such. get some rs6 replica rims, or the a4/a6 S-Line wheels (looks like rs6 wheels)

since they are oemish you can pull them off without a drop. id do no more then 18s though

Yeah I was thinking of the RS4 replicas anyway. Though I have never put anything bigger than 18's on any of my previous cars so dont have much experience with big rims. I thought if I just go bigger in wheel size, theoretically the gap must get smaller no?

Not if you get the right size tire. The gap wont be much smaller unless you get a lower prfile tire but you dont want to lose too much tire because then you lose ride comfort. Its a trade off. just lower the car and get some rs6 rep 18's

    Re: New Owner of a C6 A6

If you "fill the gap" you are out of spec with suspension and speedo. (and lower profile tire lessons the diameter - not sure what idrink was idrinking ) Larger wheels with lower profile tires will lessen your "comfy" factor, though it sounds like you can move somewhat in that direction. You on 17s? 18s? Stock suspension?

Welcome, though -- look forward to seeing pix of your new car.

Doh, Didn't really factor in the lower profile tyres

Yeah your right, the lower profile will give the same overall diameter or there abouts. So how much can you lower without affecting too much ride quality and how low can I get the profile where it does the same. Is 35 about right?

And pics, haven't taken any myself yet but here's one from the place I bought it from.

    Re: New Owner of a C6 A6

"35" or "40", etc is the ratio (%) of sidewall to width -- 35% of 255 (mm) on 18s?

I run 235/40s on 18s -- pretty normal around here for A6. (On C5 versions there is wider body for 4.2 and flared fenders, so 255/35 becomes pretty good choice for those. -- don't know if C6 has same widebody for 4.2)

How low?: If you hit search on "springs", "coils" or "coilovers" (too low imo), "Eibach" you'll find tons of threads on this topic. It will take days to read 'em all.

    What engine do you have?
