    Squeaky Breaks

Does anyone else have squeaky breaks in the cold weather? I have cleaned my brakes and also taken them apart to grease them. Its only my front right brake now though. It starts to squeak on the first couple of times I brake and then after that stops... Any help or comments are appreciated.

    Re: Squeaky Breaks

Not to jack your thread, but I just got my A4, 07 w/ 15k miles - first week with it no squeaks, now on my second week, I've got squeaks. I'm planning on doing some mods and squeaky brakes drive me crazy, especially on a luxury car.

So my question - has anyone who has put on aftermarket brakes had any issues with the squeaks? I've never bought a set, but would be pissed if I spend a $1k on brakes and then still had squeaks.

    Thanks for the help.

    Re: Squeaky Breaks

Yeah, Ill update when the weather gets warmer. I only get the squeak on the first couple of brakes. After that they stop. I am hoping this will stop around spring ish or so. Also if you do get aftermarket brakes Id go brembo or something. They seem the best to me anyway. Try APR.

Is that your setup in your pic? If so, how much did that cost you? (Actually just went to APR and DAMN!! brakes are expensive!!!)

Oh, not bragging here or anything, but I'm in Houston and it is 70 today, so mine aren't from the cold. The only squeal on light braking or the sitting in traffic and not using the gas type of braking. If I apply even medium pressure I don't get the squeal/squeak.

    Re: Squeaky Breaks

man, i drove 3 pickups, the first with front disc/rear drum and the others with full disc, and i never had the squeaks this b7 makes. the dealer handed me a freakin pamphlet on it...an official audi pamplet. i agree that a car like this shouldn't be squeaking its brakes when they don't need to be replaced. it's horsepoo. anyone think a different pad compound (that's priced comparably to stock pads) would stop the squeaking, or would you need to replace the disc too?

    Re: Squeaky Breaks

My brembos squeak, but i think its because i am still running my track pads for street use. Eitherway i think its normal for most brakes to squeak here and there.

if you have your track pads on it they squeak because they take longer to get hot (thats why they are better track pads), so the pads will squeak until they get warm... my b7 has 16,000 miles on it and the pads are faintly squeaking... im betting it is somewhat the same reason as why your track pads squeak....

    Re: Squeaky Breaks

It has to do with the OEM pads, get a set of good aftermarket pads and you'll be allset.

    Re: Squeaky Breaks

what's a good aftermarket pad? i have the same problem and i'm in florida so it can't be from the cold either for me. when's the recommended time to change em?

also, since we're on the topic of brake pads... are there any that wont create as much brake dust as oems? clean wheels only lasts about 2-3 days after wash.

    Re: Squeaky Breaks

Please recommend an aftermarket brake pad that will fit the OEM parts please. The squeak only comes from one wheel for me though. It doesnt make sense that It would only come from one and not the other ones...

My brakes squeak every once in a while, but it's normal, you just have to ignore them. All it means is that they are gripping well.

I only have 8000 miles on my car, I just got the brake pads replaced at the dealership. The front right one still squeaks, and only the front right one. Any Ideas?

    Re: Squeaky Breaks

You guys should do some research into how brakes work (contact between friction material and rotor) and how those forces combined with the possibility of "impurities" from the external environment would cause brakes to squeak.

The only time you need to worry about noise coming from your brakes would be the screeching of metal-on-metal (a good indicator that you need to get new brake pads).

    Stop being so anal guys!
