Let me clarify a couple things:
The TT -> TTS lamps are NOT simply plug and play for the following reasons:
1- There is three different types of TT lamps... Halogens, Bi-Xenons and AFS Bi-Xenons. In 2008 US spec TT's only came with AFS Bi-Xenons. In MY 2009 US spec TT's and TTS' come with NON-AFS Bi-Xenons. Bi-Xenons and AFS Bi-xenons use different ballast and have different plugs. SO if you have a 2008 you want to by TTS lamps with AFS and if you have a 2009 TT you'll want NON-AFS TTS lamps... otherwise you will have to buy new ballast which are real expensive. Why they use different ballast is unknown, but they do. If you have Halogens, you will not be able to swap to TTS lamps as the wiring harness is completely different.
TT with AFS Xenons (US 2008) = TTS with AFS Xenons (Euro, US 2009 currently doesn't offer AFS for the TTS)
TT with non-AFS Xenons (US 2009) = TTS with non-AFS Xenons (Euro or US)
TT with Halogens = No Cigar!
Here are the ballast part numbers:
08' AFS is coming up as ( 8P0 907 391 )
09' AFS TTS is ( 8P0 907 391 )
09' non-AFS TTS is ( 8J0 907 391 )
2. Once you get the right set up you will need VAG-COM for two reasons. First is to reset the car to recognize the lamps... If you don't the lamps could burn out the leveling motors and Audi will not replace them as they know they were NOT installed correctly. The second reason you need VAG-COM is to reprogram the light function. The normal TT has the signals on the strip light at the bottom of the lamps and the DRL's are the inner lights next to the xenons. On the TTS they are flipped, DRL's are the LED's and the signals are the bulbs next to the xenons.
Please note that no one that I know of has successfully done this mod in the states. I do know of one person in Asia that has done the mod successfully with some headache. He ended up rewiring and experimenting with VAG-COM to get it right. So if you are seriously considering this mod proceed at your own risk.
