Never go to Jiffy Lube! (Have Question Too)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So i brought my newly acquired Stage 3 to Jiffy lube which was so dumb. Anyway, put mobile 1 5w40 in it. I left, everything was fine. Drove home, no problems. I leave my house 20 minutes later, get a mile away and the CEL comes on. Then an Oil warning.

So i idled and coasted to a stop. Checked the oil and there was NONE!

Had to get it flatbedded to a gas station, got it up on a lift... oil was EVERYWHERE. It appears that some Dumba$$ put on the wrong size filter! Thats what appears to be the cause but ill have to wait until the AM. I cant get a filter anywhere, everything is closed.

Jiffy charged me $100 for it, tow bill was $90, and the new oil change will be another $100. I pray that nothing is wrong with the car though, otherwise this will get ugly.

Bottom line: Never go to Jiffy lube, EVER.

By the way, what oil filter do you guys suggest I get? And does anyone have a photo of an oil filter on the car? I want to see if the one they put on was seated incorrectly.

UPDATE: Jiffy Lube's recommended filter is the PZ-65 by Pennzoil. This filter is NOT the right size and they are installing it on EVERY 2000-2002 S4. NEVER get your oil changed there. The problem was solved by installing the OEM factory filter.

speachless, learn to DIY an oil change on the s4 its one of the easiest cars ive ever done. hardest part is taking off the belly pan, if they even put it back on.

    Hope your turbos are ok.

They are insured for stuff like this. Just make sure you follow up on it right away. Even if there's nothing wrong with your car you should still let them know of the situation and they should pay for your tow truck ride and give you your money back for the previous transaction.

Yea I will definitely be going over there today to have a word with them. I really need to know what oil filter is supposed to be on the car though. They put a Pennzoil PZ-65 on it. Pennzoil states on their website that it is the correct filter but it seems too big.

The o-ring from the old filter probably got stuck on the cooler housing and the shit heads at jiffy lube just screwed on another filter and did not remove the old o-ring. Thats my guess.

Re: Never go to Jiffy Lube! (Have Question Too)

Not to be an ass but here is some advice.
1, allways use a german part for a german car, I allway use mann filters that you can get from Vast,ECS, dealer , and napa
2, replace your drain plug crush washer every oil change,
3, never never use a fast oil change place with an Audi or any car you give a crap about, they hire cheap labor and you get what you pay for.
4, if you can't change your owen oil on an S4 take it to an indi shop that know Audi's or the dealer.
5, if you don't realy have any tech skills, ( not every one dose not trying to make fun of ect) this may not be the bast car for you unless you have the $ to pay some one to do all the work for you.
I worked in the auto field for 5 years befor I went into my curent field, trust me you get what you pay for, Good luck and I hope your car is not damaged.

I used to work at a "quick lube", not Jiffy Lube. Take it back to them. They will pay for the tow, fill your crankcase back up (make sure to check the oil level yourself) and bring your own filter. I recommend MANN or Bosch. Pretty sure Jiffy Lube uses shitty Pennzoil filters. They might even reimburse you for the whole thing, at least the filter.

Also, make sure that they lubricate the gasket on your oil filter. But yes, I used to work with a bunch of knowledgeable people at the "quick lube" I worked at, but I know that most places that is not the case and they just go by what the computer tells them to do. Might have put your car in as an A4. Most people don't know that our oil pans are aluminum and you need to be very careful with the threads and not over torque the drain plug, and not to over tighten oil filters etc.

Bottom line, avoid those kinds of places if you have a nice car you care about

They will pay for all the repairs and the tow bill as I found out with my truck when the cross threaded the drain plug and lost all my oil and blew my motor and they covered everything so I would just take it back to them.

    Jiffy lube story...

When I bought the A4, the salesman told me that a couple of years ago, that dealer also carried Porsche, and one day he sold someone a high end Porsche, with an air-cooled engine (he didn't specify which model) Air cooled engines require 14 quarts of oil to keep it cool, and jiffy lube only put in 4qts, even though the owner specifically told them how much it needed. It got a quarter mile down the road and the engine completely seized. Jiffy lube payed for the repairs, and a brand new engine from Germany, the total bill was over 40K.

The scary part is that Jiffy lube has a guy whose only job is to write compensation checks all day, that's how often they screw things up.

You'll never catch me at a Jiffy lube!

Re: Never go to Jiffy Lube! (Have Question Too)

My previous car was a MazdaSpeed Protege, and I brought it to a jiffy lube when I recently moved and did not have all my tools. The dude locked the key in the car. I told them not to touch anything, i have a spare at home, which was 5 minutes away. I went home to pick up my key and when i got back to jiffy lube the service manager told me they tried to jimmy my doors open and busted the locks on both the passenger and driver side.

The car was still locked, but the cable/bar in the door that connects to the locks was broken. What a pain! Had to go to dealer, get fixed, and get jiffy lube to write a check. Overall, it took over a week to rectify, when i told them i would be back in 10 minutes with a spare.

    Never went to them again.

Wow...how timely. I had Jiffy Lube change my oil and replace my cabin filter last Friday. They succeeded in snapping my cowl cover in half while trying to put the new cabin filter back in. Of course they didn't tell me and I found it myself a day later. I'll be going back there today to log a complaint.

I really need to get some ramps and just do it myself.

My friend brought his brand new 350Z to Jiffy Lube for it's first oil change, half a mile from his house the oil filter came loose and left an oil streak all the way up to his brand new house. The concrete on his driveway was not even fully cured yet. Can you say livid?! Jiffy paid for the tow back and the refinishing of his driveway. Why somebody would take their brand new car for service other than the dealership is beyond me . . .

Wow... i had a similar issue with my wife's 2.0L Jetta. The guy didn't tighten the oil filter all the way and it leaked oil all over the driveway. Luckily I was able to tighten up and add a few qts back in before she drove it again.

Anyway, you need to stock up on these puppies!

These are high capacity MANN oil filters for your 2.7t. Expect a little less than 1/2 qt. more oil capacity by using this filter over a stock replacement filter. Run more than 5k-8k miles on synthetic oil with extra confidence. We typically run Mobil 1 0W40 synthetic in our vehicles.

These are too long to be used with aftermarket or RS4 oil cooler kits.

Re: Never go to Jiffy Lube! (Have Question Too)

I go back and stand there while they work on it, (quick things like oil change, fuel filter, etc), when they change it, I ask them to let me see the old one... If they wont let me, as some kinda liability or something, I take the car and leave. For bigger ticket items, I always take it to someone I trust.

Luckily the Mobil 1 Express place near me has good people there that shoot the shi!t while they work on the car. They all respect my S4 and are obviously very careful with it, because they know that it's expensive.

For some of this, I think that people need to believe that quick mechanic places are often shady, not all, but take the steps to keep them in check.

Just for the record I've been running Wix filters in the S4 for about 3-4 years no problem. Good construction and tend to do average to excellent in most of the intardnet test I've noticed.

I didn't know a taller filter would fit, I'll try that out next time.

I always run Mobil 1 extended performance, they have a high capacity filter available for the 1.8t (m1-301, some s4 guys I know run the same filter).

Jiffy Lube didn't fill the radiator all the way on my (now sold) Legacy GT. Motor seized. JL refused to pay. Goodbye $5000.

im sorry.. im not trying to be a dick.. but honestly educate yourselves.. especially with a car such as ours.. its really not hard to make a simple mistake turn into a nightmare.
