Doing halogen to bixenon swap at shop, too pricey?

I asked a few shops around and they quoted me some outrageous prices . I know it's not an easy job that requires bumper removal, but what do you think a reasonable price would be?

If you are swapping with OEM bi-X, I would not pay more than 1.5Hours or a $100. The hardest and longest part of the swap will be the bumper RE RE. You will have to recode your CECM with vag-com also. Good luck!

I think the hardest part must be coughing up the money for the headlights. Putting them in is easy.

lol My opinion....Bumper is cake compared to working with the headlight housing.

Bi-xenon bottomline are expensive...look at spending 700-2k for a full set, ranging from Jen's which are created with various parts to the adapative ones which cost a fortune.
I think your best option is to keep you halogen and do an HID kit, or just save up and wait for a pair to come in the classifieds. THere were a couple sets for 700$ and a killer deal last month.

Re: Doing halogen to bixenon swap at shop, too pricey?

Bumper removal is just time consuming.. However, if you do it more than once then its cake. The first time was the worse cause theres so many hidden screws. Either way the swap is easy and everything shouldn't take more than 2 hours

Are you giving them a detailed explanation of what they need to do or are you just asking a price for a general conversion? Like everyone else said, it's just the bumper removal and that shouldn't take a qualified mechanic more than 10 minutes. Do the indy shops want alot?

Re: Doing halogen to bixenon swap at shop, too pricey?

$200 was the cost of the install. Purchased the lenses, ballasts, and bulbs all from different sources. With the install I still managed to stay under $600. Since I've had my lights custom painted by Bryson, Buttafuoco city lights, LED DRLS, and clear corner caps. Now I think I am at $1000 but money well spent IMO.

Re: Doing halogen to bixenon swap at shop, too pricey?

I already have the bixenons, kufatec cables, ballasts etc. The shops I asked are familiar with audis & vws and know what's involved. Damn the cheapest quote I got was $300! No way I'm paying that even if it comes to selling them

wipe the sand out of your VAG and DIY... you'll be happy that you did. Talk to Jens (lowestA4) for his harness and it is easy plug and play + VAGing using the 20 dollar cable.

and you'll have the 20 dollar vag cable for other cool uses.
