ATTN audiophiles! Running speaker wires through door jam?replacing bose speakers?

Its about that time again, I decided to change the system again. Going to deaden, add a batcap, and change the amps and speakers. Well I am going to replace the bose system with a nice set of components soon. Most likely it will be a set of morel tempo 6, second choice is the hertz hsk165. Before I do, I would like to find as much info as I can before I start the project.

    Questions:
    1. Does anyone have info on the bose speaker. Is it the same as the non bose speaker? I was thinking about using the current speaker bracket and hacking it up to use it as a mounting frame for the new speakers.

    2. I really don't want to put the crossovers in the door. 3 reasons, first there is too much vibration from opening and slamming of the doors, possibility of contact with water, and in case I decide to go active then the wires would already be ran. So how hard is it to get 2 sets of 16/14 ga through the doors? I saw TJHUB's install and it looks bad Are there any other alternatives to getting the speaker wire through the door jam? Worst come to worst I will mount the crossovers in the door.

    3. Anyone sell kick panel enclosures for the audi? lol it can help me eliminate alot of work for question 2. im too lazy to learn to fiberglass.

    4. Im going to deaden trunks and doors..any advice?

Oh and the oz subs are for sale if anyone is interested
thanks and any info would be appreciated (yes I have tried the search button )

-same setup, you will have to cut the speakers in order to use the brackets or buy some generic ones and someone make it work. Speakers will not be a direct fit, you will need some type of mounting brackets

    2. - I have my FOCAL Utopia crossovers in my door, doubt you will have any problems. If you want to run wires, you should have no problem as well, just more time consuming. I have not seen TJHUB install, so cant judge what he/she did. If you know how to install speakers, running wires shouldn't be a problem and if it is, please take to professional.

    3. Anyone sell kick panel enclosures for the audi? lol it can help me eliminate alot of work for question 2. im too lazy to learn to fiberglass.

    - you can buy generic kick panels and custom them for the car, no one sells anything for Audi, it has to be custom made. Sucks, but o well. Hopefully I am wrong and someone will post a link so I can buy some as well.

    4. Im going to deaden trunks and doors..any advice?

    - no clue what this means, you mean dynamat them? If so, use the roller and you will not have a problem, my whole trunk is dynamated.

its late, so ill be nice and reply to ya.

For sound deadening, use RAAMMAT and Ensolite or Teklite v4. I prefer Teklite since it's much thicker and already has adhesive backing.

Re: ATTN audiophiles! Running speaker wires through door jam?replacing bose speakers?

I second the raammat and I have Morel Tempo 6s installed (better reviewed for mid bass than the Hertz which I was cross shopping).

As mentioned above, you'll need to cut the woofer out and and some of the back of the door speakers and re-use the brackets. I kept the same wire and I also left my crossovers in the door. Just secure them well.

There isn't much of anything for Audi, but I'm not a fan of kicks from a clean stock look of the car perspective. As for the trunk, it's just some work. You have to take out the wheel, then all the panel pieces which just takes time. Other than that, just use a roller and have fun. Deaden the doors as well, and maybe ensolite the panels too. There aren't many vibrations because Audis are pretty solid, but every bit helps.

I also removed my stock sub to allow that gaping whole to pass sound through to the cab, plus I didn't want the pressure from my sub to play havoc on the tiny oem sub. So think about removing it if you haven't already.

It should be the same. You can always pop off your door panels and take a look. Regardless of whether the driver itself is the same or not, the mounting hardware, etc should be the same.
    2. Since you're going to end up going active anyways I'd run the wires. Also, it is so much easier to tune your passive crossovers if they're not in the door panel.

You can buy the special removal tool for those brackets from the dealership...or if you have friends there, they might let you borrow it for a bit.

Nope. I'd love to fab some up though, I just don't think we have the room as our footwells are already so small. :(

Also fiberglassing is actually quite easy. www.fiberglassforums has tons of threads on how to learn and you could also check out some build threads over at www.diymobileaudio.com to see how.

    RAAMAT or Second Skin.

Re: ATTN audiophiles! Running speaker wires through door jam?replacing bose speakers?

I thought I was a late sleeper, these replies makes me think otherwise
thanks everyone for the quick and informative replies...
I already have a couple kits from second skin damplifier pro coming home tomorrow. I forgot to get some ensolite, I will pick some up soon along with the speaker tweaker kit/pads, and some open cell foam. I'm just doing the doors and trunks first. I was going to go the raammat route, but I read reviews that it its harder to work with due to the large sheets, and also the goo/sticky factor. Other than that, both brands are pretty much top quality. If more funds float in, I will do the whole inside cabin with damp pro and luxury liner pro too.

I learned a good bit from CA and DIYMA across the years, so I give glassing a shot. I might end up making my own RTA and see how much noise I can reduce.

Quattro..you when I said deaden, I meant dynamat (dynamat is a brand name and its been so popular that the term dynamat has been used use loosely in car audio to describe the deadening/dampening aspect) How big are those focal crossovers..and what part of the door did you use?

CX-7&A4...is teklite the same as ensolite? except it has the adhesive backing? I use to like ED, I have not read much on their deadening products after finding out that it has a higher failure rate than its competitors.

Kid Red..I have read the same on comparison reviews and that why I probably will get the morel 6, however I figure if I deaden the doors enough and give both enough power, then I really cant go wrong with either. Thanks for the advice on removing the stock sub, but I already got rid of it ever since I got the subs in..the only thing I noticed is that it allowed more bass in, but I also gain rattles in that rear dash area.

bcramer..what type of special removal tool are you referring to? the doorjam/molex plug part, or the door panel clip removers?

I have both, the Teklite is at least 2x thicker and the adhesive being on the foam makes it easier to apply. Their dampening material was having adhering issues with the backing in heat or something like that in a later revision of it, I think they fixed it.

Actually now that I dug into it, it was the cheapest stuff that was peeling away at the corners. I haven't had any issues with that. I buy e.Dead when I don't need a full roll of stuff so it's much better for me. I just did my CX-7, it wasn't that hard, just time consuming and a little messy. Expect the same for the A4.
