    Bluetooth retrofit thread

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Id like to start this thread in hopes that it will shed some light on bluetooth retrofitting, along with some of the differences between the different kits on the market.

The ones that I would like to focus on are the Fiscon kit avialable through oempl.us, as well as the oem Audi components. Those who have experience with either of the two, please feel free to chime in.

I know that there are some differences in the features available. The fiscon kit at this point does not have voice dialing capabilities. Ive been told that it is firmware upgradeable though. Those with oem units, is this a feature that you even use?

It looks like the Fiscon kit is slightly easier to install than the oem unit. The only problem I have with it is the mic and its location. Oem fits near the sunroof controls, while Oempl.us recommends that their mic be installed on the A-pillar. I've heard from some that the Oem mic is the only way to go, and to stay away from some of the ones floating around ebay. I think it would definitely look kinda cheezy seeing something dangling out of the A-pillar. I much rather perfer stock location.

    I need hands free!

    Lets discuss this.

    FISCON

    OEM

    Re: Bluetooth retrofit thread

I know you said you want to discuss Fiscon and OEM but why can't you just put the Fiscon mic where the OEM one goes? I have a parrot kit (w/ wheel controls) and I put the mic in the OEM spot, just had to drill a little hole.

I have a Motorola Blue Tooth that goes thru my stock Audi Phone thing. Im not sure exactly how it was hooked up becuase I bought the car with it, but it works pretty well with the stock speaker above your head while driving.

Well, from the pictures on the website it looks just like the Parrot setup (control box, harness, mic) and the mic looks dead on the one I have. Check this DIY on AW for info on how I mounted it. You can put it anywhere but the stock position makes sense to me.

Just a question...have you considered the Parrot unit? It does voice dialing and with steering wheel control module came in a little over half the price of the Fiscon unit. I will say it doesn't do A2DP or Phone Book browsing but if you can say the name of the person you want to call why would it matter.

    Re: Bluetooth retrofit thread

When we say there have been problems with the factory installation location, it only means that uses have reported back with background noise. The FISCON mic will fit in the OEM location w/o any modification if you want the stealth installation...

I'm curious to hear anyone's input on this as well - is the OEM setup worth the extra $250 over the Fiscon setup? I need to get my crackberry surgically removed from my ear, but can't do it until I pull the trigger on a hands-free setup. Help!!

OEMpl. Will the OEM harness work with the Fiscon setup and if so can I purchase the kit minus the harness. My car already has the OEM harness connected. I had the OEM retro-fitted in my car but I wasn't pleased with it.

    Re: Bluetooth retrofit thread

Nope, the FISCON unit requires it's own signals to and from the CAN-Bus, so the harness is required...

    Re: Bluetooth retrofit thread

I hate the voice recognition on the OEM unit. i tried it once, never again. it takes away my concentration more than scrolling thru my phonebook on the instrument cluster. Other than that, the oem bluetooth is my 2nd fav feature on my car. and the most convienant feature on the car.

look up parrot bluetooth on www.audiworld.com and you will find a DIY with steering wheel controls. the motorola bluetooth is a good alternaitve but you will have to figure out the steering wheel controls yourself.

I have the Parrot bluetooth kit with the mic installed in the OEM location (by the sunroo controls). Works great!

    Re: Bluetooth retrofit thread

I have the factory bluetooth and I LOVE the voice recognition feature which really makes things virtually hands free; I don't see how talking would be more distracting than scrolling and looking at your cluster display until your contact shows up ; sound quality is great both for driver and person at other end of the line; I love the fact you can store voice tags to your contacts as that is a function my iPhone does not have (to my knowledge), and really missed from my old Motorolla. My 2 cents .

    Re: Bluetooth retrofit thread

the mic is not dangling on the Apillar it is actually very neat the way it comes out of the apillar. If you want pics of how it looks just let me know cause this thread seems old and i dont know if you already got what you needed already.
