    Clutch or Flywheel?

MY car all of the sudden started making a loud rubbing noise. Like two pieces of sandpaper against each other. I can come to a stop pull the e-brake and let out of the clutch in 1st gear. From the searching I've done on here it's either the clutch or the flywheel.

Also where's the best place to buy said parts. It a stock 2.8QM with no intentions to a sc anytime soon. So I your thoughts are welcomed. Thanks

i had to face similar problem like this. Most likely, it should be the clutch. It hardly that your flywheel failed, if you are running stock. I just open up my tranny intension to change the clutch and at the same time found out that my FW was still good so i just resurface it.

So its making noise as you start engaging the clutch while in gear or just when you push in the pedal?

It makes the noise the moment I turn the car on until I get it up to about 40 mph then it goes away.

When it started making the noise I was parked in a driveway waiting for someone then all of the sudden it got noisy.

How about if you just rev up the motor?

If I'm in neutral just sitting there and I rev the car up the noise gets louder.

Yes but is that with the clutch pushed in or not?

If you want to figure out if it is the clutch or flywheel you need to push the clutch in and get the flywheel spinning while the disk is actually not spinning at all.

Well I ran out to check and the noise is gone. I didn't drive it today and I usually drive about 100 miles a day. My GF drove instead since she works in town and only drove it maybe 6 miles today.

So yesterday after drive all day it was loud; now it's not making any noise. I'm trying to figure out whether or not to order a clutch or doing my timing belt.
