    suggestions or opinions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I thought I might open this up to the forum, and those that feel they have some good info please feel free to share 

I did ask (jstahmann), but I understand I might have overloaded him with questions and want to give him a break  although he has been gracious in his knowledge with me

Here are a few pictures of my car, and I am looking at doing one of two things 1- dropping the car a inch or so 2- or buy new tires and rims - larger size (these are currently 17’s, or the stock tires).

My question is do you think an 18 or 19 (or larger) would make that big of a difference. I am not to keen on dropping my car at this time, as it seems the reaction here and other forums is a bit mixed as it makes the ride not as smooth.

I hate to make people do work for me, but if there are certain suggestions of tires and rims I could ask a person for…that would be sweet…I am just very new at this. This car is a 2008 A4 2.0t Quattro (Sline)

    Any suggestions or opinions?

Thanks in advance from a very newbie Audi Driver ;)

    Re: suggestions or opinions

Im just down the road from you at UVU. Drop the car for sure.. spring/shock combo or coilover depending on your needs. Spring/shock combo will be non adjustable while a coilover set up will be adjustable (great for the utah winters).

As for wheels, go to tirerack.com and select your car and go through the different wheels. Our forum sponsor VMRwheels is also a good place to look.

    Re: suggestions or opinions

I am pretty sure that car is not an Sline. I know they changed some things for 08, but it doesn't look like it has sport suspension or the Sline badging. I would probably drop it with the Stasis springs and shocks. You will be able to drop it plenty and still have a really good ride. Usually when you change wheel sizes you should try to keep the outer diameter of the tire about the same. Therefore, the bigger you go the rougher the ride. If you go with Stasis you could step it up to light weight 18's and you will have a well rounded, good looking car.

    Re: suggestions or opinions

    That's def the S-line body.

I'd drop it for sure. The sacrifice in ride quality is so minor, it should only bother you if you like a Caddy-like ride. But you drive an Audi, so thats not the case.

Your car would look 10x better w/ a drop whether its springs/shocks or coils even if you keep those wheels/tires. If you want a modest drop, I recommend the Eibach pro kit. You'll get the look you're looking for and dont have to worry as much about lack of ground clearance.

This is what the drop on Eibach pro kit springs looks like:

Your wheels wont fill out the wheel wells quite as well but it'll be close. Good luck!

I'm getting 18" OZ Superturismo GT with a 225/40/18 tire put on tomorrow. I have STaSIS Street Sport Coils. I'll post some pics so you can see what 18's look like with a slightly smaller tire. I think they will look awesome.

It is interesting how it has the s-line badging, but not the sport suspension. Definitely do something about the suspension and never buy 17" rims again.

Man, I totally would if I lived in Utah. That's why I also own a Suzuki Samurai.

    Re: suggestions or opinions

The general rule is to do suspension before wheels. If you go to bigger wheels first, it's just going to make your wheel gap look that much bigger and give you even more of a 4x4 stance.

I'd suggest going with coilovers rather then a spring shock combo as they are adjustable and give you the ability to control the ride height to your liking. For a good coilover set up go for something like the Stasis Street Sports (a little over $1000). The ride comfort is compromised very little, but the gains in handling and control are incredible, not to mention the car will look 100x better.

If you still feel like you still need wheels after the drop, VMR (www.velocitymotoring.com) is a good place to start, I'd suggest going for an 18" wheel if maintaining ride comfort is a concern. As for tires, you can never go wrong with www.tirerack.com, they have a pretty huge selection of tires, all you have to do is type in your cars information and it'll give you a long list of tires to choose from, complete with things like road tests and reviews.

Hope this helps, and good luck with the modding.

08 A4's came with a SE (special edition) package which came with the exterior components of the s-line but without things like the sport suspension, wheels, and all the interior components of the s-line.

With the right drop, I've seen 17s work just fine and the ride will be more comfortable with the amount of rubber on the stocks compared to low profile 18s and 19s. But if you are already set on getting bigger wheels, more power to you because they look even better.

    Update on the ride situation….

So after posting the first round of pics and asking for suggestions I felt I received some good suggestion here on the forum and through PM.

I have to admit I was bittin by the “Modding Bug” and have somewhat grown obsessed with it. I enjoy reading about others rides and have really enjoyed making some transformations and look forward to the future ones:

So I slapped on a Sports Suspension Kit Neupseed and Bilstein dampers (if that terminology aint right you get the point, if not don’t ask me ).

Appointment to get the car chipped this coming week and want to do some tire stuff, lights, etc in about a month or so…

    I think it’s coming along

The rims are a brand called Privat (Spelling could be a bit off), i just put them on my stock wheels. What i plan to do is just ride these out until the spring, and then order some spring/summer wheels and then just switch out in the winter back to these. I actually like these rims, but i also like some of the other styles for the summer.

    thanks though,

Damn, the drop looks 100,000 times better, great choice! Looks to have lowered it the perfect amount, that shit was ultra 4x4 before.

My next move is a chip too, not sure which company I'm going with though - which did you choose?

When you guys get a chip think about future mods so you don't have to switch chips later on. That can add a lot of cost to a turbo upgrade, if you think you will ever get there.

Yeah, I am not a huge fan of the tires to be entirely honest, but at this time they will do. Plus with the drop the car regardless of tires at this time, imo, looks great – I am totally happy at this time in general...but with wanting to upgrade..i will have new ones this spring for sure (actually order this thursday when i do the chip). For winter tires though, I am cool with these ....next though is the chip….these tires though are just on my stock 17’s…
