A lot of confusion

Im somewhat confused. In order to have a slight bump in power, does one replace the cat's with a test tipe and then a downpipe, or can one leave the cat's on and just do a downpipe for the same amount of power?

Sorry if this is asked alot, i searched and looked in the FAQ but couldnt find the answer.

The stock cat is rather restrictive. It will release a couple ponies when installing a HFC or Test Pipe. But right after that can be the restictive downpipe due to it's diamater. A better route is to due a complete exhaust at once (Test pipe/HFC and Cat Back Exhaust 2.5"-3").

Thanks lifwanian, for not reading the part that says the answer isn't in there.

I dont want to do a complete exhaust, i want to keep the factory. Will just the downpipe show any gains or would it only be worth it if i only did the test pipe as well?

Here the issue to add onto what I just posted. There is restriction of the cat converter, then there is the restriction of the downpipe. What was not post in the last post is you will still run into one more restriction, which is the exhaust piping and mufflers. I would suggest to do the entire thing, or else just keep the money for something else.

i can have a friend make the downpipe for free.

If it's free, then by all means go for it . Then when you have extra dough, get a HFC or Test Pipe. Then do the exhaust to be able to actually release those ponies.

the plan was to make it one piece. 2.75 inches in diameter, maybe 2.5
