    Stock stereo with aftermarket sub?

I was wondering if the stock symphony stereo supported an aftermarket sub? I would think that an Audi system would have extra rca's but....anyone know?

high to low converter and you are set, you would need an amp as well for the sub.

Just to let you know, I got 1 12" in the back and it sounds amazing. I had a 1200w power acoustic amp and three almani 12"subs lying around and I went to my local audio store and said install it and make me a box and throw in the wiring kit for 200 and you got a deal. Best 200 I ever spent. Not sure I can answer your question though so I wont even try. Just go with 1 12" because it sounds clean.

Thanks a lot guys! Gonna go get that converter. I've bought a 10" JL Audio W7 with a JL 500/1 amp to fill that bass void. I wanted to keep the stock bluetooth and steering wheel controls and now I can! Spending and extra $1000 for a DVD screen with the bluetooth, and an extra few bills for the wheel controls and the ipod dock just seemed like a waste. Rather put that $$ to good coils or rims.

Re: Stock stereo with aftermarket sub?

When adding just a sub, keep in mind that with 500w to the sub you may end up overpowering the stock fronts. I'd be prepared to move down from 500w to a 200w-300w amp or be ready to replace and amp the fronts. Not that that will happen, just be prepared for the chance.

    WRONG.

Headroom. You want it. Just because an amp is capable of putting out 500wrms it doesn't mean you should have it doing that. Not only will your noise floor be high, but you'll be close to or clipping your amp.

Keep the 500w amp and adjust your gains accordingly.

Hah, it's like I'm talking to myself! I have the exact same sub/amp setup to the stock Symphony stereo, and it sounds great. Here's a link couple pics of my end result:

(here you can see the heat sinks of the amp just barely poking out from the upper edge of the trunk opening)

This angle looks weird, but it's taken from inside the back-seat area with the seat folded down:

Here's my bass control knob - nifty spot!
