    R8 brakes bolt up?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So one of my good friends in here from Greece and he was telling me that a friend of his in the village totalled a r8. He is parting it out over there but we frequently ship equipment back and forth plus my ecodes are fixing to get shipped over so i was wondering if the brakes would bolt up to my a4 like the rs4 brakes do?

Also thinking about the steering wheel?

I don't see why not...perhaps an ETKA diagram would enlighten us.

    Re: R8 brakes bolt up?

im waiting on greg, old guy or diagnosticator (or someone who usually deals in euro parts/etka diagrams)

it will be HOTT if they will, i will probably take off the r8 and just powercoat them red or silver...

hmm it looks like they are only six piston, i had hoped they would be 8 small pistons like the rs4 (these arent ceramic butthe pics shows that)

Q7 calipers will be crazy on a B6. They stop my wife's Q7 on a dime

You can use the front calipers if you get a new carrier made...

Rotors are no bueno and the rears are no bueno

Steering wheel will work, but it will be the same as the B7 ones, so you will have to mod the airbag wiring. Also, any multifunction will take more parts, like the cancelling ring and controller.

Exact same wheel as the TT, check Avantiex's thread on the install

If you need a carrier made send me the calipers and I'll see if we can fabricate something on our CNC machine.

    Re: R8 brakes bolt up?

Winston, could you make carriers to mount other calipers? maybe rotor hats too? You know if someone had a ready-made kit with caliper carriers and rotors, or rotor hats for Porsche or other Brembo brake setups, they would sell a lot. And not like ECS and the expensive kits they offer. I can source my own calipers off ebay, but can't get carriers. Any idea what the cost would be on something like that?

    Re: R8 brakes bolt up?

Anything is possible if we have the parts in hand to properly measure out the pieces.

Without a design or the parts it makes R&D a hell of a lot more difficult

    Re: R8 brakes bolt up?

^^^ what all do you need? I need to have some hats made to fit my q7 calipers. From what ive heard and read, these are the same calipers as the cayenne and the ones on the vw. no need for adapters i believe, according to the install instructions on ECS for their stage 4. Let me know.

    Re: R8 brakes bolt up?

It's not rocket science. But if the CNC and designer are here and the parts are where you are you can see where the problem is.

I was just speaking to someone about making hats for his Porsche Cayanne calipers this afternoon. Same thing... he has to find the brake rotor ring and then we can figure out what size hat needs to be cut to make everything fit.

    Re: R8 brakes bolt up?

It is not likely you can make a front brake set with decent quality for less than what the RS4 8 piston Brembos are going for. For roughly $2300 you are getting the equivalent of a $3900 Brembo Granturismo setup that is designed specifically for the 8E chassis, you get the calipers, rotors, lines, hardware, pads and splash shields that all bolt up in a matter of minutes.

Now that the RS4 has run its course, expect to the prices rise too.

By no means am I trying to put down anyones ability to machine stuff, I just know from experience that when it is all said and done, quality custom stuff costs quite a bit unless you are able to do large volumes and outsource it.

    Re: R8 brakes bolt up?

The guy I spoke to this afternoon was running RS6 rotors and those go for $500 each!

But I agree with you Greg... It would be more cost effective to buy a Brembo or Stoptech setup for the money than to try and R&D a one off solution.

Yes... having calipers no one else has is cool but I'll put them up against my Alcons mono4 anytime for stopping power on an A4.
