Not a good start to 2009....two accident in less than 2 weeks

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
First accident....long story short, my brother was supposed to fully reverse his car so I could get out of my spot. He decided to park at angle instead. It was LATE at night, he has a black car, I have 5% tint and next thing I hear is CRUUUUNCH. I dented up his door NICELY (beater chevy cavalier so no one in the family cared, lol) but my car has ever so slight clear coat damage on the left rear fender flare...I got of REALLY lucky.

Second accident, just now at school....I pulled into a parking spot, and my car always clears the concrete curb, and since I like to tuck my car in as far as possible, I didnt see the 2" of rebar sticking out of it....as I backed up it just took the bumper with it.....

Sucky thing is I drive around with just liability insurance, so I cant just make a phonecall, everything comes out of my pocket...ohwells

2 years of owning this car and not so much as a scratch, and now two accident in two weeks.....

    The culprit:

    Before:

    After:

I wonder if the school will compensate.....

Well, I am 21 with a good record too, but full coverage would/will cost be about $1400 every 6 months and thats WITH a $1,000 deductible. Liability is only $500 every 6 months....these are the cheapest rates I can find too.

For now, I have the bumper back in place but there is visible gaps. Futhermore, all the tabs have snapped off so it not super secure. I do plan on going the USP route, but I wasnt planning on it so soon.

    Ugh...

Damn S.C. really bends you over. Since you have a clean record, keep checking with other insurance carriers to get a better rate. There's insurance companies that give discounts to young drivers and good students.

yup rates drop on your 25th bday... but still if you cant afford enough insurance you either cant afford to drive the car, or you can afford to pay every penny of the damage... and both accidents were you being retarded to i really dont feel bad for you... 2 lessons learned.. 1. 5% is way to dark... 2. NEVER pull your car in over a curb/cement block... always a bad idea

Yea guys, I am insured with Progressive. They were the absolute cheapest too. Everyone else wanted several hundred dollars more.

I actually have two accidents on my record but neither of the two were my fault and not in my audi....actually both were in the same cavalier I backed into, lol

My insurance expires in a month so I will shop around then....

i really wish i was that lucky... my monthly payment to nationwide (which is the cheapest, i've checked around) is $236.24.. that is w/ $1000 collision, $500 comp, 5k property, 15/30,000 bodily, un/underinsured both declined, nothing else... do the math..

Re: Not a good start to 2009....two accident in less than 2 weeks

i check all the major companies online and local once a month...
nationwide says if i stick w/ them for another 6 months i will get a huge rate reduction (i'll be 25, and a speeding ticket, accident and careless driving will fall off). i could change companies right now and pay under 200 a month but i'm promised something even less if i stick w/ em..

sux how insurance companies have ya by the balls

Re: Not a good start to 2009....two accident in less than 2 weeks

I had a similar accident just last week. I slid onto a damn snowbank or I should say icebank! Long story short the passenger side corner of the bumper (like yours) was completely hanging off and the fender is dented as well.

The only difference with my story is that it was snowy and icy, I took the turn too fast and my car is already USP. So now I have a reason to do an aftermarket kit! Hoooray more money gone!! YAY!

edit: Oh but my brother managed to put the bumper back into place and it doesn't look too bad aside from my pass.. side grill and lower center grill missing, it looks half decent. As soon as the snow melts away my money is gonna melt away with it!!!

Esurance is cheap and convenient, but not when you have a claim to file. They take forever, get you the lowest price for your car damage (even if the other party is to blame), etc...

The damage is minimal for that bumper, luckily it doesn't cost much at the dealer for that bottom half. It's just a pain to install. Where are you located? Insurance is also expensive depending on location, they want a lot in nyc put I its cheaper in the rural areas like upstate.

Hum I haven't had to deal with that yet.. But I had a friend who has them and said filing a claim was quick and easy.. oh well haha I'd rather wait some time and pay 750-900 less

I have heard that whoever owns the parking lot/parking structure can be held responsible for rebar sticking up. It is a hazard not only for cars but for people walking. I'd check into that.

    Sami,
Idk how it works in S.C. but here in IL when your involved in a accident and your NOT at fault but your insurance for some reason or another pays for it. You can get a letter of expierance, that way those incidents don't count against you with future insurance carriers. Hope this helps

Well it was my school parking lot, so I am definitely going to look into compensation.

But I agree, that much rebar sticking up is dangerous if someone was to trip or whatever... I don't want to go through insurance because I don't want to file a claim which might jack up my rates

dude consider yourself lucky... the bottom part isnt even painted! SO
    a.) u fix that one.
b.) you buy a new (painted) lower non-usp
c.) Dish out the extra 50$ and get the USP!

...and I too try to make sure my a4 is snuggled into a good parking spot at school, but I never where ever I go, drive it all the way in.. thats is too risky..
