    Coolant light flashing

Ok I have a 97 A4 1.8T and we just put a head on the car and did all the other junk while we were in there. Oh yeah I just got this car and it was sitting for a year or more. We went to run the car the first night we put it back together and it would run hot so we thought thermostat so I got one. Well I was gonna change that last night and seen it was low on coolant again so I pulled the upper hose and no coolant came out. So I put more coolant in got it full again and ran it some more and no more running hot. I let the car run for about 30 minutes never ran hot. Now for my problem the coolant light flashes now after it runs for about a minute. I know it is full of coolant and there are no leaks. What could my problem be? I really wanna get this car running since I sold my Jetta and I miss driving a euro.

Check the coolant sensor on the bottom of the reservoir... Hopefully its as simple as that.

Ok I will check that but if that was bad wouldn't the light come on as soon as I start the car?

I don't have a vag I do have a Matco scanner. Will it throw a engine code for a coolant light?

    Re: Coolant light flashing

there is a bleeder screw on the top front of the engine by the intake mani on the drivers side of the throttle body. You can let out any air there. And i am not sure about the coolant sensor throwing a code. I have never had that problem, I would assume that it does throw a code though. keep us posted.

Hopefully you just have to bleed it, or a worst case would be your water pump is shot and is not pumping any anti freeze.

Ok the plug on the bottom of the bottle was not plugged up all the way just sitting there. I just happened to look I posted this in the S4 section sorry guys. Thanks for everybody's help. I think I might have to replace the fan clutch now cars wants to go alittle above the half way mark when driving but the oil temp stays around 160 170.
