Yup I hear it's $10,000 for us Cali guys. Anyways my tp stinks so badly, but it might be because I never changed the gaskets on my exhaust when I took it apart and put it back together. Alot of guys say that they can't smell anything with theirs, so I'm not too sure.

Oh, also there used to be threads on here about cops pulling people over and trying to compare our engines with a photo of a honda's. Anywhoo the cop was confused as to why nothing matched up and the owner of the Audi even had a BT setup, but the cop ended up letting him go lol.

Get stuck at a light for a few minutes. It stinks pretty bad. I've gotten a few evil eyes from cops caught behind me in traffic.

    Re: Test Pipe Smelly?

yes they can smell, but who doesn't like the smell of gas ? and if your always moving its not that strong...but if your parked in your garage you may smell it.. As for a fine it depends on your state laws.

In July 1, 2000, the State of Florida abolished the auto emissions test requirement for all vehicles throughout the state. The smog-tackling program only lasted nine years and had often been a fiercely political issue for many Florida residents and legislators.

Several counties allegedly registered air clean enough to make the tests obsolete, but even the counties with continuing poor air quality are looking for alternate ways to breathe easy again.
Meanwhile, if you spot a smoking vehicle on the highway, your only recourse is to hold your breath―currently there is no program in Florida for reporting gross emissions polluters.

Im glad I live in florida because I am getting one soon...full tilt owes me a solid chunk of change and I want to spend it all on mods!

    Re: Test Pipe Smelly?

Yes it smells when you sit for a little and my dad said when hes behind me and I take off it smells really bad...but that being said best choice I ever made. It may not be a huge hp gain but its really worth it in terms of airflow. If you think about it when you get an exhaust and an intake you are opening up the air flow but its still restricted in that one place so its almost counterproductive. I don't know if you are tip or not but I am and I got the downpipe with my britalman exhaust and had it modified for the same reason as above. My car is much happier. I would really recommend the britalman testpipe it honestly has so of the cleanest welding I've seen out of all of them, that and it matched my exhaust. Hope this helps. Yes you can get a fine but I wouldn't base my decision on that.

    Re: Test Pipe Smelly?

It is going to smell anytime the engine is running. You have no catalyst.

I have a non-catted 3" system on my STi. It smells horrible at all times. I have to switch the HVAC system back and forth from fresh to recirc depending on the wind while at a light. I intend to install a high flow, metal substrate core into the system but a $300 each I'll wait until next year if I do not pass via the roadside e-test van setups we have here in Denver.

Gasoline smells like ass, except race fuels. I'm thinking of doing a dual fuel tune for E85 as well as premium. I've heard E85 has less odor, but the only E85 WRX I've been in has my old exhaust with a cat.

There's definitely a different odor but I like the way it smells. Ever smell an old truck or car (not diesel) with a badly rusted out exhaust? It smells like that.

ask yourself when the hybrid batteries are discharged and disposed, is a hybrid really worth the smell and damage to the environment?

on my humble b6 you can only smell it on first startup when its cold or its in a closed space. it offers drastic reductions in your EGTs and allows your exhaust manifold and turbo to return to normal operating temps much quicker. for example i always drive easy the last few miles and when i had stock programming and injectors it would take my EGTs nearly 5+ minutes to return to normal operating temps. now with a test pipe and having the apr 1+ software (which runs 2.5x the boost of stock) my egts return to normal in about a minute or two. I think it really helps the oil as well since all that heat isnt stuck right by the turbo.

as far as environmental damage. just think about all the lawnmowers, chainsaws etc plus thousands of racecars, airplanes and jets worldwide all running WITHOUT cats... do you really think a few thousand tuners with test pipes are making or breaking the environment? i dont think so

great point, its proven that current hybrids actually cause more long term environmental damage when they have to have the batteries replaced or the car is totalled and goes to the scrap yard.

I don't think it smells anything like rotten eggs. If anything, its the cat that gives your exhaust the rotten eggs odor sometimes.

In my experience not all of them smell, but I don't know why... I know someone with one and his car was off for at least an hour and I walked behind his car and it REEKED.

    Re: Test Pipe Smelly?

I just installed my VMR test pipe into my car, its with the stock exhaust. It does feel like theres a bit more pull, and you can hear the turbo a lot more. It does smell a lot when im sitting still, but who cares. Also my car didnt even throw a cel, its like normal. Its probably cause of the custom chip i got in germany, i didnt know it had a test pipe file. Anyways im liking it and it was worth the 70 bucks! Just a bitch to put on cause of the limited tools i have.
