I am wanting to buy the vag com and am in need of some help. What do I all need to purchase for it and is there a way to save some money on it by getting some of the cables from ebay?

If you want to do basic stuff, like clearing codes, some ebay cables work without issue. Others don't. To do more advanced options, you need a license, which ross-tech will sell you for 100 bucks to work with the ebay interface. I'd suggest just buying the genuine interface from ross-tech that's already unlocked. You just need the interface cable and the software either way, which is free to download at www.ross-tech.com

Depends on your laptop. If you only have a serial port and only want to be able to fully scan older(B5 included) models, then that will work. They have an upgrade program as well if you want a 'modern' interface. but that will do the job on your S4 if you have an older laptop with a serial port .

That's it. Order whichever one will plug into your laptop. I just use a serial cable since my VAG computer is old and stays in my trunk anyway. If it's not a dedicated VAG computer, and it's newer, sure, get the USB version.
