    Coil Pack Nightmares...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I kept reading about these coil pack replacements, CEL's and misfire codes.... and the s!!! just happened to me: CEL went on, mechanic VAG'd it and misfires came up in 4 cylinders. Plugs are pretty new, but had some carbon build-up on em...Just gonna replace all 8 coil packs, plugs and both conduits just to be on the side safe.
What is with these damn coil packs, ANY theories

Haven't bought them yet but I was told that this place has them for about $25 each. And I believe these are the updated versions.

    Re: Coil Pack Nightmares...

the Q is the latest version that i have seen. And My B5 S4 never had any issue with coil packs. The only think i can think of is that the v8 coil packs arn't bolted down and vibration is getting to them. And the B5's were bolted down. I know vibration can destroy a battery if its not bolted down so y not a coil pack. food for thought. Ill replace all my coil packs when i do the plugs in her

I think your right brother, we took em out and they don't seem to have a substantial means of keeping them housed-in too well...

    don't wash down this engine

Moisture creeps into the coilpacs and shorts them out.
The newer versions have a slightly better seal but a lot of owners have developed failures after having the engines steam cleaned or just washed down.
    Just wipe it down.

I also think it has to due with the massive amounts of heat the motor produces. I have washed my engine a few times since I replaced my coils and so far so good

YOUR ABSOLUTELY RIGHT... you know what I realized that the CEL came on right after cleaning the car... this happened on 2 separate occasions, because like an idiot, I sprayed the grille head on!
    Thanks for the input.
