    Why would 1 pad chamfered?

I've got an extremely noisy, brand new rear slotted rotor. Out of curiosity I went through my old stuff-my OEM pads and rotors and discovered that one pad is chamfred. I believe this pad was from the passenger side rear, outside. I don't know if it's coincidence but this is rotor that is making the noise(it was a thumping originally, now when i step on the brakes it sounds like there's a semi next to me with the engine brake going AND it's getting worse.

Any ideas? The brakes that were removed are definitely OEM. I bought this 2006 B7 with 14K miles in So Cal and it was an off lease and in pristine condition and maintenance was kept up on it from the previous driver/owner.

Could there have been an underlying problem such as a bad rear axle, bad wheel bearings etc that would lead to a dealer to chamfer only 1 pad?

    Thanks in advance.

Re: Why would 1 pad chamfered?

Not sure if it is becoming more common but the new Pagid rear pads I just ordered are apparently not chamfered. However older styles were. I am guessing that the extra labor to bevel the edges was deemed not economically feasible and thus the process was discontinued. Unfortunately that will mean a lot of people will become unhappy with their new pads, start writing reviews about how the pads chatter and then people will stop buying those pads. Then the manufacturers will be confused as to why their pads no longer sell and will introduce something new and improved, perhaps even a chamfered pad.

    Thanks for the reply.

Only 1 pad, 1 edge was chamfered. that's what I don't understand. Every other pad was not accept for the outside, rear edge of the pad. Strange.
