    Brakedust.... WTF?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have this super potent brake dust wheel cleaner from BMW that washes the dust right of my 330, but I can't find anything to get it of my 08 S4... What does everyone else use?

Meguiar's Hot Rims - All Wheel Cleaner. Come in a purple spray bottle. Works like a Hot damn. Been using it for years on 4 different cars now with no damage.

P21S Gel or just the wheel cleaner works well. Also, you can't just keep using the same stuff on your new car? i'm sure its not BMW specific, hah

The only way to clean them? Lots of elbow grease.

Just be glad you don't have the BBS wheels from the 2006 model. You'll spend more time just cleaning the wheels than you do the whole car.

I have those wheels.....and he's right: I spent the exact amount of time cleaning the wheels today as I did washing the rest of the car. I may get them powdercoated black just for this reason.

What brakepads does everyone use? No tracking, just street use, stronger than stock, NO DUST, and NO NOISE! This would just solve everyone's problems. =)

    Re: Brakedust.... WTF?

I have the 06 BBS CHs. Easy to clean with right process. Car wash soap, AcePowerStick (cleans inside of rim), and foam dollar store sponge. 10 minutes max for all wheels. The trick is to have them sealed.

Clean them really well with PS2 gel. Then seal the wheels with a couple coats of Einzett Glanz. Sometimes I use Rejex instead of the Glanz.

I run gunmetal rs4 reps in the winter. They always look clean:)

Perhaps I must be more clear. It works like a breeze on the BMW and doesn't do crap on the Audi...

Good performance, no dust, no noise. Pick two.

Carbotech Bobcats come close. They bite well (most aftermarket don't bite as well as stock in my experience), and the dust is a light grey color so it's not as noticeable. They occasionally squeak just a bit, but not enough to be annoying around town.

Maybe your rims are stained? Brake dust should never be that hard to get off. Maybe it is tar? I really don't know I am just throwing this out there.

    Re: Brakedust.... WTF?

Are you using a wheel sealant too? I've been happy with Poor Boy's, but there are others as well. A little more effort up front but I can clean mine really well with car wash soap and a boar's hair brush.

Been using P21S for a few years and it works great. Although I didnt use the gel (stronger version), I was able to get rid of most off the yellow shite of the used wheels I used for winters for my B6 A4 (I'm sure the guy never washed them in all the years he owned them).

Dont have before pics but take my word for it, the fronts get very dark and dirty.

I had good success using Hawk Ceramics. Is your problem only on the fronts? Not sure if they make rear ceramics???

I use Carbotech Bobcat pads, F&R. One time pad purchase is cheaper than a years worth of wheel cleaner. Good pads, in my experience.

    Re: Brakedust.... WTF?

Another option is meguairs wheel brightener. It's technically one of their professional products, so you buy it in a gallon jug (I think around twenty dollars) and then dilute it yourself. It works A LOT better then HOT rims and most other spray's that I've tried. You can dilute it weaker or stronger then recommended, but either way, the jug lasts a long time. I've never tried any of the wheel wax that is mentioned in this forum, but I haven't even been looking for anything else after I found out about wheel brightener.

agreed, although mine look pretty nastbrown after the rain today. my car got destroyed by the rain today, it was perfect clean and looks disgusting now.

the p21s gel though i was saying can be used as a regular washer or CAN be left on for hour+ as a degreaser (for example, plan on cleaning up my mom's sl55 wheels which i tried to clean her car and i was shooting water and the grime / dark spots on her wheel were not going away ahha)
