    Milltek exhaust?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I ordered a Milltek (resonated) exhaust today. Youtube video's are not helping my decision because I can't find a resonated version on a B6, that has stock DP's. Should I go with a non-res? I don't plan on getting dp's for awhile. (suspension, rims before dp's)

I have untill Wednesday to change the order. Should I get the non-res version? Will the resonated version be too quiet? I want to hear the sound of the exhaust, but don't want people 2 blocks away thinking im racing down the street.(like my 05/07 STI's.)

I ended up getting a great deal for the exhaust IMO, im just not sure on which one to get. I also don't want COPS staring at the car everytime I drive by them.(Which don't happen anymore with the S4. The STI's are another story though.)

    Re: Milltek exhaust?

^^^ So should I change the order to the non-res version? I haven't heard any B6 S4's around here with an exhaust.(Although I have only seen 3-4 S4's)

I don't plan on getting DP's for awhile(next year maybe). I just want the exhaust for the sound.

I have 2 1/2 in. flowmasters on my 05 Denali XL, and it's pretty loud. If the non-res is that loud or quieter, I would go with it.

Im just worried I will spend the money, and have to take it to a muffler shop to have the resonators removed. When I could have purchased it without them.

Also, Is it wierd that the non-res, and resonated are the same price? I thought the non-res would be cheaper?

    Re: Milltek exhaust?

I've got a resonated Milltek catback only on my S4 Avant. Sounds throaty enough when you get on the throttle. I didn't want anything that sounded overly loud as I live in an older neighborhood and didn't want to piss anyone off. My bro has the downpipes and resonated Milltek on his S4 sedan which sounds really good when he's on the throttle. A little louder than mine when idling, but nothing too annoying. Non-res and dp's would be too loud for my taste, but to each their own. If you plan on getting dp's in the future (like I was), go with the resonated. Be sure that when ordering through Stratmosphere to get the catback that will bolt onto your OEM dp's. (My bro initally tried to install the catback only, but the pipe diameter was larger than his OEM dp size- don't know if that was a change between the B6 and B7 S4's.

    Re: Milltek exhaust?

How was the fitment? Did you install it?

I ordered it from Stratmosphere. I told Greg I had the factory DP's. I guess im going to give Greg a call tomarrow to switch to non-res. DP's and any performance mods(although theres not much for the B6 S4) is last on my list. Thanks for your responses, Alex

Yeah, you can install it in your driveway with jacks or maybe even rhino ramps. The OEM part coming out is in one piece, so you'll have to store it full length or cut it in half. Fitment was spot on- no problems. Milltek cat back bolted directly onto my OEM B6 dp's.

i did non res and don't regret it for a sec. It sounds exactly how I wanted it...beefy when I want it to be. I was gonna go DP's too, but I think I'll do the preCat removal thingy for the same power, but not ridiculously loud.

sounds like you either have to sell it and get non res...or get the DP'$$$. GL and keep us posted.

^^^ I posted a for sale add, we will see what happens... If Jay's Custom Exhaust can make a new section to remove the resonators, I will keep it. Im NOT going to get the resonators cut off.

    Re: Milltek exhaust?

Well I called Stratmosphere, and they are sending me the non-res pipes! I can't wait, should be here next week! They did charge me $65 for shipping them to me, and sending the res version back to them. I can't wait!

    Re: Milltek exhaust?

Just curious, why not find a local muffler shop to do a custom system. I am not familar with Milltek, however I bet they use a straight through design like Magnaflow, Borla, etc. and a good custom shop can build something on the car that is custom suited to your liking, and for less money with better fitment.

    Re: Milltek exhaust?

^^^ That's a good question. I went to a local shop, and they quoted me $900 to do a cat-back with magnaflow mufflers. I hate how the local shops weld the complete exhaust in one piece. I have had it done to 3 different cars, and never liked the sound that they produced. Few months after, I ended up buying new exhausts, and having to cut them up to ship when I sold them.

    Re: Milltek exhaust?

We do a lot of systems with flanges, and $900 sounds pretty steep, it sounds like you haven't had the best shop doing this for you. To bad your in Novato, I guarantee satisfaction with our exhaust setups.
