I think I want a B7 A4

Okay well after going back and forth the past few months on what car to buy, from the 335xi to the 08sti/wrx and 08 R32, and I keep coming back the audi. Well after lots of thought, I really don't need the power of those cars and don't need such high payments. After driving in my friends chipped 1.8t gti, I figured that's plenty of power for me, and I can get that and more from the A4 2.0T. Plus I think the B7 looks better than all those cars, and theyre def more comfortable and civilized than the Subies.

So after lots of though I am thinking of getting the B7 A4 2.0T with quattro and 6mt. My question is, how much whp am I looking at from just an exhaust and chip/reflash? Would if be comparable to lets say a stock WRX or a 08 R32? How is Audi with ecu upgrades and warranty? Thanks!

They are not comparable to those two cars, you get roughly 40-50HP to the crank with a chip, and 5-15hp for a exhaust, another 5-15hp for a testpipe, roughly nothing for an intake

I just bought my pre-owned certified from Audi. It's an '07 with 24k miles. Mint mint condition. Got it for 20k + TTT.

Good choice on the A4.

A chip will add around 50 bhp and about 85 lb-ft of torque (depending on which brand you go with). An exhaust won't add a whole lot of power (5-15 bhp I believe), but it will give you a nice mean sound.

It'll probably produce more power than the R32 and wrx, but you have to take in account the weight difference between the three cars.

As for the warranty issue, yes most dealerships will void your warranty if they find out you're chipped. To combat this the chip tuning companies offer ways to "hide" the chip for when you take your car to the dealership.

If a chipped 1.8T GTI is plenty of power for you, you will be satisfied with a chipped A4 2.0T. A chipped A4 will be very comparable to a stock R32 in terms of strait line performance. It will have more torque so it will feel more powerful than the R32 though.

The new WRX, STI, and 335ix will still be quiet a bit quicker than the chipped A4 though. The new WRX has 265hp, and you know the STI and 335 have 300+.

Audi (as with BMW and many manufacturers) tend to be void-happy when it comes to mods and warranty. ECU reflashes are transparent to dealers and you can even flash your car back to stock before you take it in. If a dealer knows what they're doing they can find out if your car has been reflashed, but they wont go to the trouble unless something major breaks that ordinarily shouldn't. In the end, it all varies dealer to dealer. But a majority of owners have no warrranty issues even being chipped.

It is too bad Audi won't put dsg in the A4 (I know it is coming in the new S4) when VW has said they will virtually phase out conventional autos in favor of them.

The B7 A4 doesn't have DSG. It's just Tiptronic with paddle shifters.

I have a CVt with S-Line and it has paddles. There is currently no A4 with DSG. A3 has and I believe TT has. This is because they are MK5 based and use the same engines and trans that VW uses.

Buy the 335xi and up the boost and forget about it :)

The 2.0T already feels faster than it is, and with a chip it should feel just as fast as an R32.

Everyone's leaving out the Fuel Pump upgrade. Take it Stage II plus Fuel Pump and you'll be at approx. 280 crank HP (according to APR), throw in an intercooler for a little bit more and you're pretty well set.

Currently only available on cars with haldex quattro. A3, TT, R32.

DSG is a Dual clutch system for VW's, audi's is called sportshift or sporttronic or something similar. Just making sure you guys are using your terminology correctly.
