    50 Trim Stylez!!!!

    FINISHED PRODUCT DYNO:

so the GTRS got boring real quick!!! i traded my 50 trim GTI that was making over 330whp for an AEB with a uni k03 chip.....i thought the Elim would quench my thirst for power..LOL

so anyway, this weekend the GTRS is coming off in favor of another 50 trim. coming from a MKIV GTI, the T3T4 50 trim was a very popular turbo. coming over hear to the Audi world (where budgets seems to be a little bigger), it seems GT series turbos are were its at. Im going to do this a little differently and do a 50 trim....

Heres a list of the parts:

    Kinetic T3/T4 50 trim (.63 4-bolt discharge with V-Band adapter) Now a Garrett...because the Kinetic DIED IN A MONTH!!!
    Tial 38mm WG
ATP clone T3 side mount log manifold
    ATP BT DownPipe V-Band
    Greddy FMIC/custom piping
Oil lines pieced together from ATP (man i hate giving them money)
    Custom inlet pipe
    Unitronic 440cc file
    Delphi 440cc injectors

    to follow early this spring:
    Scat 20mm rods
    new rod bearings
    new piston rings

boost will be limited to 16PSI until the rods go in.

i will be adding pics as the parts all start pouring this week.

All big metal parts have been mirror polished (intake manifold, valve cover, compressor housing), and all plastic parts are being wrapped in carbon fiber

i still really need some help designing the inlet pipe and routing the WG dump tube.....please do feel free to chime in with any ideas you may have regarding these two things. any pictures would be a great help!!!

    Thanks for looking!!!!

i wrapped the SHIT out of this DP!!!

this is what the bay looks like now:

    GT28RS Eliminator:

i just got done polishing the turbo:

    hmmm couple thoughts ---

#1 I hope that a garrett 50 trim and not kinetics roto whatever, as I have seen quite a few complaints about those
#2 don't expect to make any real power with 440cc injectors.

That's what I was thinking too. you're severely limiting potential w/ those injectors.

I ran 630's on my old setup. on top of that mine was a 48 a/r. W/ a .63, you're going to want all the fuel you can get.

The TIP is going to be trial and error. it took me several attempts to get it right. I used quite a few silicone hoses and couplers as well as some aluminum tubing. Welding the the DV bung on Aluminum was a bitch.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

they owed me a turbo, so i took it.

i would have went with a 630 file (but Uni doesnt have one for the AEB yet!! its all about DBW for them) whenever they do finish the 630 file, i will switch...until then 300WHP is all i can do with these injectors...not a problem though, the rods arent even in yet.....

I know what you mean about the UNI I am going to be running the same file tweaked with 630's until I can get a Tapp tune.

True. Go custom. The reason they don't support the average person with an AEB and the bigger 630 injectors is the lack of a OEM wideband. Or at least that's my understanding.

    There's plenty of AEB's w/ 630's though

Good luck on the project. Keep us updated.

I thought someone was doing this setup on a Tiptronic car, hence my saying level 10.

I am saying this to everyone. If I didn't have a 01.5' and wasn't DBW, I would without a doubt only run SEM. The 630's will give you enough room to play with that setup.

Here are some pictures of my old 2860rs setup that was converted to a external wg and ran on the same ATP Manifold......

hey bassed, how is your IC core mounted in that last pic?

and is that a greddy core? i think we have the same core. i got the greddy core because of the way the internal "fins" look. the design allows for alot of flow, but with ALOT of surface area...i will post a pic of the inside for everyone to see.....it is FAR from one of those cheap ebay cores that seem to be so popular these days....

it doesnt make any extra HP. the car just feels so much faster because of the weight in metal i shaved off of the compressor housing from polishing it

oh, and a couple of things.

DON'T, i repeat, DON'T use any of the gaskets for the turbo or wastegate. just use the gasket from the manifold>head. the other ones will just end up blowing out and causing problems down the road. trust me on this.

and also, i would make sure you have some good studs to bolt the turbine to the manifold. if you have cheap ATP studs or the like, they will snap eventually. trust me on this one again . i would get some ARP bolts. it equals more $$$$, but it's worth it IMO

    good luck with the install

Yeah that's my old Greddy core, I still have it if someone needs a decent core and it's black. It just needs a map flange or it blocked off for a dbc car.

Any who it was mounted with strapping strips from Homie D

I now am running 2.5" piping all the way through and a much bigger core...

    Re: 50 Trim Stylez!!!!

wow. we have been going through hell putting this together. started on monday!!!!

its been one little thing after another!!! (you all have been here im sure)

we had to use an air-hammer to cut through the exhaust mani nuts (3 hours)

we had to take off the WHOLE exhaust (with no lift) just to get the test pipe off (as its really hard to reach down there from above...and you can hardly reach them from under the car).

the ATP inlet is EVIL!!!! it was put on this earth to torment those who who dont have an SPA mani. im referring to making an inlet. THIS PART HAS SUCKED!!!!....we finally got it by using a 3" 90* off the turbo pointing down...to a cast aluminum tight radius 90* pipe (made by Vibrant)...to the MAF housing...to the cone filter. the filter is sitting where the stock air box would be. i tapped 3 holes into the 90* cast aluminum elbow and screwed in 3 different sized fitting (fittings where threaded on one side and barbed on the other). a 1" OD for the DV, a 3/4" OD for the PCV, and a 1/4" for the EVAP. it was HELL though!!!!

the DP is about 1" too short!!!! the V-Band flang is SOOOOO close, yet so far away :(

we had to fabb up a WG relocation pipe and a dump pipe to come off the WG. this part went pretty smoothly actually...

ALL i need to do now is figure how we're going to get the 2 V-Band flanges to meet up now. this sucks!!!! they are only about an inch away from each other :(

    pics to follow....

you've been doing metal fabbing,... get a 3" pipe, and just extend the dp by 1.5", problem solved! or, just connect it to the turbo, go to a muffler shop, have them extend it, and call it a day. either way, it's a pain, but it's not a HUGE deal.
happy to hear you got the inlet sorted out, hope we were all helpful. can't wait for pics and driving vids :)

or 1.5" away from meeting the exhaust. Which is probally the right error margine that was ment. I'm sure it will bolt to the turbo just fine. Unless you have a v-band. Then there should be a 5 bolt to v-band adaptor which would close the 1.5" gap. Pics would help.

    yup, the 5bolt > v-band adapter.

    just like this

since you're not running an internally gated GT turbo, you're isn't going to fit. but no worries. you've been doing a lot of fab work by the sound of it. just buy(i know it sucks) another clamp and 2 V-band flanges. then fab up a little section of 3" piping to fill the gap. viola

I DID IT!!!! its over!!!! these last 5 days seemed like weeks. this is my 3rd time doing a big build, but the first time doing custom stuff.

we got the V-Band flanges to touch on the bottom of the flanges but the tops were still about 13" of an inch from being there, so i just pulled on it as hard as i possibly could (im a pretty big guy and this took all i had) while the guy ive been doing all this with got the vband on . we were able to torque down the nut and the flanges FINALLY came together :) oh, and im using a 4 bolt-to-vband adapter already....

those welds on the dp or exhaust are gonna eventually break cause it sounds like its under a ton of stress from not fitting. I think you should drive to the exhaust shop and have them refab some stuff so it fits like a glove. Its not as expensive as you may think. Probably only about $150-200 to rework the pipes. ATP really needs to stop selling those down pipes. Only rare occasions do i see them fitting. I've never seen them fit a t3 set up.
