I made my 1st long haul in my new RS4 today. It was a great day, I had it up to 145mph on the Taconic. Drove my quad on the a frozen lake for the 1st time. I hit the snowy trails and did powerslides for hours on the ice! I even saw a fox, a deer, and about 5 hawks. It was the perfect day. I drove back to LI for the evening and it was nast weather. And the was outstanding the whole way home. So i was getting gas before I got home and when I pulled outa the gas station slowly, and my car slid sideways with zero traction into the curb. I cannot believe i drove on ice all day and then hit a curb at 5mph. And it wrecked the car. I barely got it home.
I am so upset. It was like the 5th time I have driven the car. And now the traction light is on and the steering wheel is sideways and it can barely drive.

damn!! that sucks!! 145 on the taconic...that's crazy...gotta watch out for those cops. hopefully the damage isn't that bad

speeding on the taconic = bad idea. last time i got a speeding ticket on it the cop was a large enough douche to give me a ticket for having a sticker in the rear window

I have been doin that drive since I started driving in Highschool and I got caught twice and got a ticket once. I got the ticket on my Bday many years ago. I was doing about 125 in my old Celica and I saw his light rack sticking up above the construction wall and I hit the brakes but couldnt slow down before I passed him. Ill never forget because he peeled out his Z28 Camaro trooper car to catch me. But I was hard on the brakes and just stopped on the shoulder, turned off the car and put my keys on the roof. After a smart coversation, I got off with a 71 in a 55 instead of a 116mph ticket. 2nd time, I blew by an Highway Patrol car on the way home south, I was much more worried on that one because he was actually pacing a speeder in an unmarked police car. I went by him so fast and he got me way down by the Sprain Pkway. He yelled at me for an hour before letting me go.
I always run with a radar. Although I have not bought one for the RS4 yet, I am definately puttin at least one in there. I was able to hit that speed of 145 very quickly. Even without the S button on. I waited till the top of a huge valley at Rt. 202 I think... And hit it to the top of the next hill. By that time I was already down to 80ish without the brakes. Anyway I have been doin this for years and I have not grown out of it. But I have an incredible track record up there and have not broken my speed record of 155mph (from my signature Celica GTS) with the new RS4 yet.

Just got my estimate from my insurance and Audi... They figure about $4950.00 in repairs!!! 2 Rims, New Stearing Rack, control arm, and axle. I hope this never happens again. I am gonna get a new set of tires. The car was supposed to come with new tires but there is no way that what I have are new. I did however grab the Euro steering wheel they had in the window to install while its there. Hopefully that help make me feel better.

Sorry to hear about that! Back in 2000 when I used to go to the CIA in hyde park I would shoot down the taconic to hang out with buddies in Brooklyn for the weekend.
Got stopped twice, first time cop gave me a break, the second time the cop was a CIA grad, we chatted about the institute he then gave me a ticket and told me to always have a back up plan. I thought our chat was gonna get me off, little did I know. Ended up wasting half an hour.

Taconic was a great ride up and down the mountain, I wish I had my Rs4 back then, it was a struggle to make it uphill in the Civic!

I am thinking of getting the Euro wheel also, let me know what functions, if any you lose.
