    "Left Dipped Headlight" Need Help

Ok so story is, i ended up purchasing D2S bulbs in the first place after being mislead on what i actually needed. Not Knowing what the difference was between D1S and D2S bulbs were, i ended up breaking one of the oem D1S bulbs. So while waiting for delivery of the new D1S bulbs, the broken bulb was just connected and placed back into the housing. Tonight i went ahead and replaced both bulbs with the right ones, and the left headlight, the one that was broken previosly, isn't working and the cluster still says "left dipped headlight" as it had said before. I have a feeling that something is fried, whether its the ballast or wiring watever, im not too familiar with whats going on or what happened....i need some help to figure out what is going on!

Did you make sure you replaced the correct bulb ? The same thing happened to me and i realized that i changed the wrong one ... you have to change the one closest to your blinker

I think you have to take it in and have it VAGed, mine said the same thing after one of my headlights was replaced and Audi took care of it, that warning was annoying and I didn't want to deal with it.

so i went to the dealership and they told me it must be the ignitor in the headlight which is liek 500 something from the dealership. Somehow i think its bullshit but idk, is there really a way to clear it through VAG com? there is no way im getting a new ignitor, in any case new headlights but im trying to avoid that as well.

just so we understand. You had OEM HID's with the D1S bulbs. You took them out and tried to install D2S bulbs since someone sold you the wrong bulb. You broke the D1S bulb getting it out and tried to run the D2S bulb with the old D1S igniter?

Now you have the dipped headlight on the dash and the audi dealership is telling you that you need a new ignitor. since the ignitor is bad you installed new non-hid bulbs in the housings.

it sounds like if you actually want to have HID's you will need to buy the proper D1S bulbs and a proper D1S ignitors, re-adjust the lights after you install the new bulbs and call it a day. am i missing something?

I purchased D2S bulbs by accident, sent them back and got D1S bulbs.

In the process of trying to install the D2S bulbs, i broke an oem D1S bulb.

In the meantime of waiting for the correct bulbs to come in, i had placed the broken D1S bulb back into the housing.

Since then it has read dipped headlight, even after putting the new bulbs in.

I didn't put halogen bulbs in the HID housing? i replaced my highs, nothing to do with the lows.

So right now im thinking, either i fried the ignitor by placing the broken D1S back in at the time, or the computer still thinks i have a burnt out HID and i need to reflash it?

that statement makes it sound like you put a non-hid bulb into the housing.

If your D1S bulbs actually ignite and light up you may be ok. Check if the connector on the back of the housings is good and snug. Pull them off and push back on to make sure. I had a harness come loose and it thru the 'dipped headlight' on the dash. I re-installed the plug and the light went away.

yea i was messin aroudn with the connection for a while and still nothing, it doesnt even flicker, and its with the new bulb. Even a while back before i replaced the oem bulb, the dipped headlight woudl come on and when i got out to check it out, it was fine and working. I know the new bulbs are good, i tested both of them with the working passanger headlight, so if anything i think it must be the ballast.

if you don't want to buy a new ballast what about getting one from a wrecking yard?

i found one on ebay for 199, im still searching around.

When you buy new headlights lets say ecodes or whatever, they dont come with ballasts right? im guessing you have to reuse your existing ones when you do the swap? Id be interested in getting the black ones, where is the best place to get them?
