    Newbie B8 VAG question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I currently have a B7 and the corresponding VAG cable and software. I'm just wondering if the same cable is compatible with the B8 A4 platform or if I need to purchase a new one.

I don't want to re-live one minute of the constant passenger seat belt chime that haunted me when I first got the B7 A4

    Thanks

I have read B8 cable had coding on it to unlock, cable is different. New ones have this stated in description:

"New internal Gateway Coding Assistant (required for Audi B8 platform cars)."

I have not purchased on yet, intend to in the near future.

If you're having problems with your vag, go see a gynecologist.

Nice... so the $20 Ebay cable will live to see another few years of VAG modding.

No, a $20 ebay cable wont work. You need version 805.1 software to "read" from the B8 which means you need the cable 1lop2k5c has: HEX+CAN

    Re: Newbie B8 VAG question

What about using the cable for simple things like seat belt chimes headlight, sidemarker and region specific settings? There was alot of confusion about this when the B7 first came out and follks were adamant that all B7's use CAN-BUS and a $20 cable wouldn't work.

As it turns out the $20 cable worked fine for many things since some of the modules do not require the CAN-bus and therefore didn't require the full blown HEX-CAN cable. More complex features like data logging and diagnostics did require the full blown HEX-CAN cable though.

Here's the link to the lenghtly discussion but I guess in the end someone with a B8 is just going to have to try it out and report back.

The B7 only required a CAN connection for the engine because lets be honest the B7 is really a B6 with an upgrade engine hence accessing the engine module required CAN but the rest of the cars electronics didn't.
With the B8, its a whole new ball game. like the A3s which now used long coding for every controller in the car, the same is for the B8.
Whats worse about the B8 is there is no information about what the coding options are but the basic mods have been figured out.
