im thinkin about removing the middle resonator so the engine breathes better cause i feel there is a restriction especially when i step on the gas. Just wondering what u guys think and if its a good idea and worth doin. Also if i do it, my shop said it wont be loud at all, just wanna make sure thats the case
    thanks

i heard that removing the resonator does make the exhaust sound louder, at least more aggressive.

want the engine to breath better, pick up a test pipe for like $120 or so from ebay... might get a hint of more noise from u'r exhaust, but it'll make u'r engine breath much much better... plus, lower egt's, it's actually good for u'r engine...

removing the resonator will not only make the exhaust note louder, but it will be raspier and drone significantly more. volume may not be too loud (subjectively) but it makes a big difference in the sound of the exhaust.

it would be better to go with either a test pipe or real cat-back exhaust kit. a high flow cat alone would likely help more (power, temp, spool wise) than cutting the resonater.

    Re: Exhaust question....need some feedback

there are a bunch of dif companies that make a test pipe for our car... do a search. when it comes down to it, just find a test pipe. it might be a PIA to put in, but it's well worth it. sure it's really easy to just cut out the resonator since its right out in the open and easy to get to, but all you are going to get is some extra noise, but no performance gain.

i had my resonator removed. there is not too much of a difference just a bit louder and deeper tone. i also felt that the exhaust was a little bit less restricted, i would only do it if u have an extra hundred laying around

    Re: Exhaust question....need some feedback

a friend of mine just got the resonator cut out and replaced with a straight pipe on his jetta for $25

although he only has one outlet rather than dual exhaust...

anyone have a clip of the stock exhaust with resonators taken out on a 1.8t, or has done this before with the stock exhaust?

No need to mention the test pipe and how it will provide... blah... blah blah .....
