    Problem with Steering Wheel

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So, i it snowed today and i went to the lot to practice some drifting. About 2 to 3 minutes passed and my steering Became Really hard. i stopped the car to check for the steering wheel fluid and there was nothing in it. i went it my friend's car and we got some steering wheel fluid and i put it in my car. I checked for all the leakage but there was none.
I kept the car started , turned around the steering wheel here and there. Its been 3 hours now and my Steering is still Really hard. It gets OK some times when turning but most of the time its really hard when turning.
    Any suggesions.

you may have blown the power steering pump. it's very bad to keep our cars steering at full lock.

    Re: Problem with Steering Wheel

you should be able to do it yourself, remove the drive belt, remove the 2 lines that go to it (get new scealing rings if necessary), and uinbolt it from the car. Otherwise it should not cost you more than 1-1.5 hrs of labor.

Same thing happened to me a few years back. Just make sure you flush out all the fluid or you'll be replacing the pump again in a few days. The stealership made that mistake with mine.

remember not to turn your wheel from lock to lock anymore while drifting.

those pumps burn out in a matter of seconds if youre doing that

Similar thing happened to me, did "on spot 360", parked and stiff steering, no leaks though, power steering is brownish though. I am able to drive if I give enough RPMs. So I assume my power steering also went?

I wish there was a way to prevent that in the future, like blocking mechanism so you won't turn steering wheel all the way or some pressure relief system. Looks like german engineers weren't that good.

I have audi a5. My car has too hard steering. Too hard to turn right or left when the engine is running.. I did something in 09 central electronic (my computer frozen until coding something with vag-com), and from then my steering is too hard.. What should be the problem? Before it worked correctly...

The A5 has electric power assist. You must have changed how much power is applied to assist the steering torque. Ask on the A5 forum. This is the B6 A4 forum.
