    S5 or CTS-V

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Well yesterday I found out that a local dealership had a CTS-V on the show floor and decided to check it. I never consider looking at a 4door sedan but I like how the CTS looked with its futuristic aggressive front end design. And with the LSA engine who would not like 556 HP and 551 lbs/ft of torque?!!? The interior is not bad looking. It does not have AWD like an S5 but its not as if i'd be driving it in the winter time. So i enquired about its price and i was stunned that it was only about $10,000 more than what I was am going to pay for my S5. So is an extra 200HP less AWD worth $10,000?? my audi dealer ship can't tell me when my S5 will arive...who knows, it might not be until late summer and i don't want to go thru another summer without a nice ride. so i have decision to make....do i get my deposit back for the S5 and get this or should i wait out? And i want to point out that i'd be utterly disappointed if my S5 comes in with the 3.0T.

    Re: S5 or CTS-V

If you are single go for the S5. Ladies will definetly like it when you take them out somewhere and chicks from bars will also love it.

The CTS-V is if you want a lot more power in a cheaper package. It probably will not impress women as much but will impress men in the "know" with cars.

    That's my opinion...

    Re: S5 or CTS-V

I would definitely go with the CTS-V. You get more bang for your buck. You're going to be driving it from (hopefully) April-October/November. And it doesn't snow every day in winter. I think the CTS-V looks alot more aggressive and I would go with it. But, go with your gut

I work for a dealer that has both Audi and Caddy, plus more. Turning wrenches for caddy, i was finally able to work/drive a new CTS-V and i loved it more than the S5's that i have driven on the Audi side. Caddy is defiently being bold these days with the new V lineup. Try and take one out for a ride. Their starting to come in by the bunches here at my dealership, we have 5 of them right now.

Either way I doubt you will be disappointed. I think the s5 will win the beauty contest though but the CTS-V's raw power makes up for that. Really I highly doubt you would dislike either of them they are both sick cars I would take either one. Go with what you want its hard to compare a sedan to a coupe because right there they are very different.

Well i was expecting a bashing of Cadillac...lol

Yeah, well went i first saw an A5 i fell in love with it. I immediately placed an order for an S5...without even sitting in one...A or S!! Its a beautiful car with great lines. The CTS is also very nice...and i am worried that I will be dissapointed if i don't get my V8. As for impressing...i believe both would impress a guy and gal equally. Lets be honest, unless she's an automobile aficionado...she wouldn't know the difference. They are both nice looking cars...and with the CTS id be able to haul more girls around ....and yes I am single. I just wish there would be a definite answer and release date for an RS5...that would make my decision making so much easier.

considering CTS-V's eat almost everything on the road and look and sound cool as hell, I dont know why you would even consider an S5 over that car lol.

Eh it depends how you look at cars though some people like all engine some like looks more. Both cars look great and are quick. The S5 won many design of the year awards for a reason and the CTS is the fastest production sedan. If you want instant gratification the CTS is readily available so go for it lol.

    Re: S5 or CTS-V

Its not like its instant gratification of speed for me, I just think the cts will out perform it in almost every thing, supposedly they are track monsters as well as in a straight line. And to me the CTS-V with the right stance, rims, and exhaust, will look so much better and still romper stomp M5's and RS6's all day long, IMO there's nothing better than that. I'm just a really big fan of the new CTS's, S5's too, but there just something about sedans that pack a serious punch!

    Re: S5 or CTS-V

the styling on the A5/S5 in and out are outstanding. top of the line stuff.. reading your post, it looks like you put the Audi at the first place on the beauty pageant and the Caddy come second,, meaning the caddy is hot. but just not first prize...

i say, take a test drive on both of them, you might end up finding things you never notice on both cars that would make your decision making easier..

if the Caddy is anything like the Charger (cuz they are both american cars).. i'll skip.. drove my buddy's charger, and it felt like driving a dam box... V8 or not, was so happy to jump back on my A6

there is no comparison between the two.

you said you dont wanna go through another summer without a nice ride right? so wait until may/june and if your S5 doesnt come in than just go to your local caddy dealer and pick up a CTS-V. i doubt they will be on short supply and you will also prob be able to get a nice deal because it will be out a little longer.

What else have people been considering before they purchased their S5?

how about this; do you really want to take the chance and get the Caddy with the financial troubles GMs has right now with a possible bankruptcy? i give it to the Caddy for its tremendous pwoer but sexiness of the S5 just kills all.

It sounds like you are trying to convince yourself that you would be as happy with the caddy as the S5. Once the newness of the caddy wears off you will wish you had gone with your first choice which is obviously the S5.

What does their bankruptcy haft to do with thinking about purschasing a car right now? GM will never fold over and be gone. The government needs GM just as much as GM needs them. Don't let that be the final decision on a product. New Camaro comes out next month as well

the cts-v is hands down the the german car killer, as far as performance numbers. But, yes the styling looks good now, but when you look back in about 4-5 years, it will look dated. Look at the older body style CTS vehicles, they look very dated. Most german cars dont loose that look, 10 years can go buy and they will still look up to date. Two totally different cars, as far as what you get from it. Although, i do love all of that power the new Vseries is getting. Just plain sick!

Ahem, older, BASE CTS cars look dated. I feel as though the first gen CTS-V still looks hot with it's larger wheels, Brembo derived brakes, aggressive front and rear bumpers, and hood.

    CTS-V.

    By a long shot.

I mean, come on. The S5 is a nice car, but the V is truly an amazing vehicle. People see that it's American and has a big V8 and automatically assume that it's just a straight line monster, but it is also a VERY capable car on a track.

"CTV-S by a long shot" "The S5 is a nice car, but the V is truly an amazing vehicle" Just curious as to what you are currently driving to make such statements and how much time you have spent in either vehicle.

I agree w/ him 100%. I own a B6 S4 currently and sold an C5 Z06 about a year and a half back when i had my daughter. One of my friends is the GM of his fathers GM dealership (carrys Caddy) and he has taken me out in the new V and it is insane. The interior is sick, the chassis dynamics are sick and the motor is sick. The only thing i am up in the air on is the styling but after having been in one, the perfomance of the car more than makes up for it. If i was soley going on looks the S5 would easily win out, but the perfomance of that car is so unreal looks are not even a consideration, especially with the car being in the price point that it is in.

For the record, for those of you that are hung up on the fact that it is a 4 door and that don't care for the looks, there is a 2 door coming out in the near future.

    Re: S5 or CTS-V

Great points everyone...There is no denying that the CTSV is a monster. And im all about the power...but looks are equally important to me. But its like someone mentioned...the novelty look of the caddy would wear off a lot faster than that of the Audi. I love the look of the S5...its a beautiful car and it looks great from all angles. The headlights screams refined and exclusive. The roof line spells classy. On the other hand, i think the caddy looks amazing from the front with its aggressive lookin (yet cheap plastic metalmesh-look) and cowl hood. But kinda bland from all other angles...maybe thats because its a sedan. And when i think of sedan i think of family car...and i am not in that stage of life just yet.

One of my concern is quality. I have never owned an Audi but im assuming i wouldn't have to worry about their craftmanship, inside and out. But it is a new model and every new model has its gremlins, regardless of manufacturer. I believe the caddy is very strong mechanically...Engines are GM's strong point. But everything else after that can come from a parts bin of their cheaper vehicles. So to me i'm paying the big bucks for the engine, and the rest is a gamble.

Another quirk with the caddy is their pop up nav screen...i don't know why they just didn't integrate it fully into the dash.

I fully intended on getting a coupe, but now that im considering this sedan it opens up a whole new world of choices. Should i start maybe consider an S6 now? Which, by chance, i saw one last night at the theater. and it really didn't catch my eye other than the S6 badge...so if doesn't catch my eye, it probably wouldn't impress the ladies too much...

But you got a good point there Boomer...i need to take each vehicle for a drive and decide which one i like better. Its kinda naive of me trying to figure out which one i like better without any drive time....and heck, i haven't even SAT in an A5 or S5. So i might not like it from the get-go.

But it will be a couple of weeks before i get a chance to do any of that so ill keep ya all posted.

Oh, and to answer your question....I currently drive my commuter car...an 01 VW Jetta

I had a supercharged lifted Nissan Titan last year that i totally loved, but had to let it go before it depreciated too much...and it was getting a little banged up

Thats like saying if the Lexus IS-F is anything like a Altima you'd pass.. After all both are Japanese right.
The IS-F has the MOST comfortable seat in the world...id buy that car in a heart beat if it didn't look so funky with its droopy side air dams.

    S5.

You fell in love with the A5/S5 design. It is a great car and driving one, whether 4.2 or 3.0T will not disappoint. It may not be as fast as a CTS-V, but it is a much better car and IMO offers so many intangibles over the Cadillac. Even though you shouldn't buy a car to impress people, the S5 will certainly win that battle. Its just plain sexy and so unique. With a CTS-V only a few people in the 'know' will realize its anything more than a nice looking midsized Cadillac.

If you're leaning towards 4 doors and want the 4.2, grab an RS4. Faster than the S5, 4 doors, and pretty decnetly priced now.

    Re: S5 or CTS-V

interior quality is so far superior on the audi it's not even funny. the buttons and knobs don't have that cheap feel that they will in the cadillac. the audi will be a nice place to spend time in.

    Re: S5 or CTS-V

Get the S5, and with that extra 10 grand, go out and buy a motorcycle. A yamaha R6 or something. Maybe even a Yamaha R1 for your summer good weather fun. Then you get both. The class and refined sport with the S5 and the all out sport bike for you time.

S5, hands down. The CTS-V is a bit over the top, a bit cartoonish looking. Hate those wheels, too. The power is nice but the overall quality and style of the S5 takes it for me. Coils, wheels, exhaust and you have yourself a truly superb car.
