RS4 does Audi proud

I must say, I'm really impressed. I didn't need to be told how great a car the RS4 is, but today, I experienced first-hand just how amazing this car really is. We had a car meet today up here in Vancouver, and for a good part of the highway cruise, I was driving alongside the lone RS4 participant. He's a member of AZ as well, and it was great to meet him today.

But by seeing the car in action up close, and better still, hearing the sound of that engine, my goodness, that is one very special car. I'd like to see how Audi's going to top that car with the next edition of the RS4 (if there is one).

Yeah, all the cars are special in different ways, but the RS4, and to a different degree the white 335i (which has a Vishnu chip), are great because they don't scream "look at me". It's the subtlety I admire most.

But yeah, cars like the GT-R are faster, but it's expected and predictable. It was an interesting gathering of cars any way you look at it.

Not a bad idea, but the last time we did that (last May), 8 out of 15 cars got speeding tickets. It was tragic. But still, if it means even just one more RS4 to help defend Audi's honour, could be well worth the trip.

The Gallardo LP560-4 has to be heard to be believed. While the RS4's sound is elegant, powerful, and the C63's sound is violent and malevolent, the Lamborghini embodies all those sound qualities simultaneously and is absolutely mesmerizing, hypnotic.

It's pretty good as a daily driver. Aside from the breathtaking performance, it's got 4-door practicality, more backseat legroom than the S4, lots of neat little tech features, and a reasonably supple ride given its sporting intentions.

The fuel consumption is going to shock you a little though, so be warned. But when you hear the engine and exhaust note (especially on a cold start first thing in the morning), it'll put a huge smile on your face. Guaranteed.

The C350 is nice as well. White is a very good colour for that car. You should take some shots of both cars together.

Yes, I have the Multimedia Package (which is actually incorporated into the Premium Package) and the car does play DVDs (but not MP3 video) on a really high-resolution screen. You have a 6-disc changer in the car, and since the car also has an auxiliary jack as well as a PC card slot, both of which can and probably will be used to play music from, the 6-disc changer could conceivably be reserved entirely for DVDs. You can only play a DVD while the car is stopped (with the gearbox in P), but it's a neat feature to have nevertheless.

As for the fuel consumption, well, if you stay in Comfort mode and you go easy on the throttle, you might eke out a few extra miles/kilometres from a tank of gas, but a gambling man would wager you'd have a hard time not stepping on it.
