While the front end of the car is off i an comtenplating powder coating the valve covers. I run a small powder coating business so i figure why not. Im trying to keep it as non-rice as possible. Im having a tough time deciding if i should color match them nogaro, spray them in a silver vien, or leave them how they are. Again, the car is apart so i figure this would be a good opportunity.

What do you all think. Here is a picture of silver vein and blue...

    Engine Bay for reference...

    Opinions would be appreciated, thanks!

Thats a tough one. I have to say they look just right the way they are though. the blue is going to clash and make the engine compartment look too busy. The crinkle finish looks good on its own, but I just don't think it fits in. If you do coat them though, it will kill two birds with one stone. You can replace those troublesome valve cover gaskets before they become a problem.
P.S. get a new battery cover while you're under the hood;)

Yeah going to pick up valve cover gasket kit this week. I feel the silver vein will match pretty good because if you look close the engine covers are a vein, however im not sure if that will be too much vein though. If i can match the nogaro i think it might look pretty unique.

I do like the look of the silver vein. But what do you think about doing the intake runners as well?

I don't get which part you're debating doing? The one circled in red is just a piece of plastic, is it not? You're thinking of doing the valve covers, as in the part where the coilpacks plug in, eh?

First off, they aren't already a crinkle finish, to whoever said that. The RS4's covers are, and ferrari plenums are, but not the S4 covers. They are smooth. However, if you did them in a silver vein crinkle finish I think they would be pretty awesome.

My battery cover doesn't stay on either.

Re: What would you suggest for valve covers?

I would definately go with silver, blue will look too crazy with red coils. Silver/red is a good contrast in engine bay.

I wish you the best with your work, i just got done doing all that..it was my first time working on audi, and it was interesting to say the least.

Re: What would you suggest for valve covers?

You should just do them the same krinkle red that's on the RS4's

Your post is a little confusing as you say that you want to paint your valve covers and then post a pic where you have circled the oil filter cover. MOS goes on to post colors of painted oil covers. What r u actually looking to paint?

Re: What would you suggest for valve covers?

RS4 has black not red coils, so red valve covers look good.
I still think silver or charcoal grey would be the best option for valve covers.

I believe if you purchase a new coilpack for the S4 they are now black. I think I read this somewhere, could be wrong.

This is true. I just skimmed and saw he had a pic of the oil filter cover.
Valve covers will be found on the left and right side of your engine.
    Covering the valves. ..and pistons.

No problem Ed, i think i confused everyone. I was leaning toward the silver vien... i do like the blue, but i feel that it will look too ricey in the end.

Any one know the part number for the engine cover by the washer fluid caps and dipstick, and easy way to get one? Mine didnt come with one, or the other cover by the mass air meter being an 05. I ordered that one last week. Thanks guys

Re: What would you suggest for valve covers?

Personally I would either keep them a bright silver finish (not much of a fan of the silver vain you posted).

    Or

    Red

I think the red would look very well inside the engine bay of this car.
