Is this the engine oil drain plug?

This picture was taken in the front of the car from the driver's side under the fender looking toward passenger side of my 2001 A4 2.8 Quattro. I'm curious if the bolt in the center of the picture is the drain plug for the engine oil. And I'm planning on using Mobil 1 10W30 synthetic. Should that be alright?

    Yes that is it.

I prefer Castrol Syntec 0W30; it meets VW502 and ACEA A3, which your owner's manual calls for.

Does Mobil 1 10W30 meet either? The 10W30 high mileage does, is that the version you got? Either way, it probably doesn't matter as Mobil 1 is a very good oil. YMMV.

Mobil 1 10W30 does not meet either of these. It meets ACEA A1/B1 and A5/B5. Do you think its a big deal?

If you change it <or any quality oil, esp synthetic> regularly, I doubt it.

I also use the OEM Mann oil filter, but I am a bit paranoid.

I only have 110K on my 2001 V6 A4, so it is just getting broken in.

is it that important to use the OEM filter? I already bought a FRAM. I guess I could get another if i need to.

fram's arent great in my opinion, but if you change it AT 3000it should be fine. if you already have it might as well use it. just get an oem or mann next time. prob same price

Will do next time. Jeez, theres a lot of details to worry about in these cars. I've had the car for about 4 months and I learn something new like this every time I pop the hood!

people just listen to shit... 10w30 will not hurt the car but it wont start as easy on cold mornings. In the summer its almost the same as running 5w30.

Re: Is this the engine oil drain plug?

I personally have had issues in past Audi's using a fram filter. It did not have the correct valve in it and in turn did not keep the oil pressure up. Mobil 1 or OEM filter seems to be the best. I bought a box of OEM from GermanAutoParts.com. I also use 5w-40 but I'm not sure if the V6 uses a different weight. Just keep an eye open for your oil light if you put the fram filter on as if it pops on it's probably for pressure reasons.
