    Getting Ecodes

My 02 B6 A4 seems to have hologen housings (Part number 8E0 941 030 F), but I don't know my bulbs are whether D1s or D2s. All I found from my headlights is that part number above. Anyway, I decided to get Ecodes(a complete housing kit including OEM xenon bulbs & ballasts), but I have to know what fits to mine. D1s type or D2s? If I replace the both housings, should I still care about the type of bulbs? I am thinking of getting D2s type Xenon Ecodes. Also, the OEM HID kit costing $1,400 from ECS tuning is reasonable? Or, is there another way to get HID kit cheaper?

One more question. To replace license plate lights to the white, what should I do?

    All ECodes will be D1S.

A pair of 5GL ballasts with a pair of genuine Philips 4300K D1S bulbs should not cost more than 400$

    Re: Getting Ecodes

The D1S bulb has the ballast attached to the bottom of the bulb. It looks like the bulb is sitting on a pedestal. The D2S bulb does not. If you already have halogen bulbs then you don't have either one as they are both HID bulbs.

i have so bad news for you. valeo, which is the company that makes the ecodes s supposedly having problems with their molds. i ordererd ecodes a month ago and stll havent received them. they are on backorder. there is no way to get ecodes right now so you might want to consider doing the joey mod. and the bulbs you have are d1s.

    Re: Getting Ecodes

Wow. Thank you so much. From my understanding, it is better to keep my halogen housings and set a pair of 5GL ballasts with a pair of genuine Philips 4300K D1S bulbs, isn't it? If so, how can I get a pair of ballasts and the bulbs? Are those on Ebay or ECS?

    Re: Getting Ecodes

You can keep your halogen housings, as long as you swap the halogen projector for a HID projector, before you install the D1S bulbs/ballasts:

Okay. Just bought the HID projectors from your link. Then, what's next?

    Re: Getting Ecodes

Once you swap them with your halogen projectors, you can install the OEM HID components that fit directly into your stock housings:

    http://www.hidconcept.com/Kits-valeo-d1s.html

You could also buy a cheaper, aftermarket HID kit (from DDM Tuning for example), but since 99% of those only come with D2S bulbs, you could use a screw to secure a D2S bulb in a D1S bulb holder, like so:

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showpo...6&postcount=19

The big disadvantage with aftermarket ballasts though is that they don't fit directly into the housing like the OEM ones do.

    Re: Getting Ecodes

Thank you sooooooooooo muchhhhhh, Mxrz! Surely I don't want to go with a ghetto mod at risk. I am so glad that you saved me from this mess. I really appreciate. If I buy that Valeo OEM HID kit, can I DIY alone without any problems, like a light warning, malfuntions from aftermarket ones?

    Re: Getting Ecodes

Just bought the OEM HID kit from HIDCONCEPT. Thank you so much. Is there anything to know when I install them? So I will have HID projectors and OEM HID kit soon on my Halogen housings. How about headlight adjustment? After the set up, Do I have to take the car to the dealership to correct it?

    Re: Getting Ecodes

You can do everything yourself, it's pretty straight forward, you shouldn't get any warning lights. Adjustment is manual, just like with halogens.

    Re: Getting Ecodes

Okay. How about buying white bulbs for the license plate lights? Is there a specific type of bulbs that I have to buy?

    Re: Getting Ecodes

you guys are going about this ecode thing all wrong. you should be looking on ebay.de for them and find out if the seller is willing to ship internationally. i got my bixenon ecodes for 250 shipped plus 15o for my ballast and bulbs... all used of course, but for that price who cares.

If you want white LEDs, these will work:

    14.5v 39mm Fuse Style LEDs
