VSS is STILL broken throwing a code!

I have no clue what it is anymore.

the sensor has been changed, the reluctor ring that sends the signal to the sensor has been changed and still I get a VSS P0501 error code.

The car will not rev above 5K and what I dont understand is why my speedometer still works.

If the VSS is not working, how does the car know how fast it's going?

Another cluster was also tried - the code still persists.

Are you sure the gap between the reluctor ring and the sensor is right? Also, is there any debris on the sensor? Have you checked the wiring from the sensor back.....all the way? Maybe the wire could be kinked inside the wire insulator.

The reluctor ring can only sit in there one way, it's keyed so there's no wrong way to install it.

The sensor is fine, it's new and I've tried two of them.

The wire from the sensor to the cluster harness is good - as is the ground.

If it were bad, my speedometer would not function - it does. I'm going to try to check the wire from the cluster, to the ECU. From what I've been told, it's on pin #54 and the wire color is blue/lilac. I'm going to trace that back to the cluster and see if it's in tact.

If the wire is good, I'm going to try another ECU. I doubt it's the ECU but at this point - who knows.

The VSS sensor is wired from the trans, to the cluster, from the cluster, to the ECU.

When the block was logged for the speedo it was recording 0.0MPH - and the fault code is in the engine, not cluster.

Tomorrow is another day - which will hopefully be a better one :)

Fixed - just updating the thread in case anyone else has this issue.

The fix is posted in my other thread.
