    motor problem ??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a few questions I hear the timing chain tensioner's have problems on the S4 v8's how true is this is it a wide spread problem. I owned a B5 S4 and people ranted and raved about the turbos are gonna blow. OMG the turbo's. And i never had any issues with the turbo's at all. Is this the same type of deal. From what i hear from a few vw audi tech's that this is a bad ass motor.

    Anyone expierence this problem??

    thanks all

    Re: motor problem ??

This motor is completely different. The is no timing belt like on the other motors. There is a timing chain. The timing chain is not as prone to fail nore have I herd of anyone having it fail like the belt.

At this point I have not herd of ANY Issue with the tenchoners on the B6 S4. The 4.2L pre timing chain this is an issue. So I would say it can't be that wide spread Ive NEVER seen anything about this and its not in my service manual

are you sure? All I have seen is there are several issues with the early 04's but that was with the tensioner in the front of the motor. there was a service bulletin for it. After a search I still can't find any info on the tensioner for the chain failing. Not to say there is none. but all I have seen is for the 03 and older motors. It would be nice to see the info on the new motors

    Re: motor problem ??

its probably just a uncommon problem that only happend on a few motors. Im sure thier is no worries with proper maintaince. I wasnt scared when Anon from induction told me they did 3 in 2 weeks. But its probably from people really beating on them. He also told me they did turbo's like crazy when i got my b5 s4 so. I just take care of it and not worry. My B5 s4 treated me very well

One of the mechanics at my dealership, who I've talked to at length about the B6/B7 cars, has a 2004 S4, and he's put over 150k on it. He's done nothing to the motor other than change the oil religiously. He told me that if I take care of my car that it will last for years.

    I wasn't referring to the S4 4.2L V8 but the 4.2L V8 for the 03 and older cars.

I was referring to the fact the the 03 and older 4.2L had timing BELT issues with the tensioner. I have not seen any issue with the 04 and newer tensioner and the timing CHAIN

Yes, but you're in the U.K. and the car was available as an 03' model in Europe.
