Did a lot of maintenance work on the S4..

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So finally got the car all fixed up. Replaced the following:

    Spark Plugs
Valve cover gaskets(thanks for that bolt in the corner audi, i mean seriously why?)
    Accessory Belt,
    Belt tensioner,
    Installed the upgraded snub mount.
    Did the air box mod

No extra bolts or parts, except now i can't open my hood for some reason but I'll look into it tomorrow.

Wow what a difference in the way car runs, it is simply incredible. Feels like a brand new audi. I've learned a lot, and I've got bruises on my hands to show for it! :)

I'll have to take some pictures once the weather is a little brighter. I ask that my noob status be upgraded pronto! :) J/K

removed the flap door inside the intake box, and removed the snow filter or whatever is the technical name for it.

Here is the pic. THis is located between the top air inlet and the air box it self

What does removing the snow filter do versus just checking periodically if its clean? Two months back i swapped out my air filter and cleaned out the snow filter and plan on checking it every 6 months or so. I'd rather have it in place catching all the leaves and crap rather than having all the debris going directly to the filter.

And what is this flap door you speak of?

well isn't the filter supposed to stop crap? I would rather have something stuck onto the filter which has a huge surface area as opposed to that little snow filter.... one leaf can block half the airflow in the small area. If you pull your airbox apart.. under it there is this little valve that opens and closes... it should be open all the time... pretty stupid.

Do you notice a difference with the new snub mount? Also did you follow a DIY for the valve cover removal? If so please post up a link. Thanks!

its probably the same mod as the B5's did to thier s4 cut a hole at the bottom like the RS4 air box had that flapper as well.

Re: Did a lot of maintenance work on the S4..

Air intake draws air on a pretty high point of the bumper, there really is a small chance of "crap" getting there. No other performance cars have this, at least the ones I drove. I removed the flap door completly, and also removed the vacuum line that runs to the front of the engine to a T fitting.
I used NGK iridium plugs, about $8.20 each, much cheaper then the dealer.

I didn't follow any DIY on valve covers, it's pretty self explanatory. Remove the coils, remove the PCV ventilation tube on both sides and remove about 14bolts on each valve cover. There is a bolt in the worst location posible.. you have to use a small 1/4 swivel to get it removed. They are all T25 size.

Factory snub mount was much softer and easier to remove install, but it wasn't torn or damaged. I don't really notice much difference with the snub mount.

I'm just glad I'm done with all the maintenace on the car, only thing to do now is change oil every 5,000 miles or so.
