Changing the fuel filter and fuel pump?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was wondering how hard it is to change the fuel filter and fuel pump on my B6. It just started making noises last night and the local mechanic wants $300 for parts and $200 for labor.. Just curious.

    Thanks,

Re: Changing the fuel filter and fuel pump?

that is really fair actually. retail parts are about $250-300 (new pump, filter and gasket) and its a biatch especially if your tank is full, i had to do mine in the heat of summer on the side of the road with a FULL TANK!

it took me about 1.5 hours to do the pump alone (sweat in my eyes plus i had to feel around in a full tank figuring out how to disconnect that shit), filter is like 20-30 minutes, getting the clips off is a bitch too... if you break one, you will

Re: Changing the fuel filter and fuel pump?

my dealer was $40 for the filter, $8 for the gasket and 250 for the pump at retail prices. i got it all for $220 i think at jobber price

i would be content to pay someone to do it again.... i hate smelling like gas for two days, if your car is under half it shouldnt be as bad

Re: Changing the fuel filter and fuel pump?

So a local car mechanic wanted $300 for parts and $200 for labor... I decided to take it to Mobile One, Inc. in Glenview, IL and the guy told me it was just the filter that needed to be changed and that was why it was making the noise it was.. Ended up costing me $92... I just find its unreal how some mechanics can rip you off hundreds of dollars...

BTW... Mobile One Inc (Glenview IL) Ill give them ++
