I don't know if it was the sub 10 degree weather or what but my car will not fully warm up. The water temp will vary from half way to the half way mark and the second line and the oil gets near or at the first line. This is true even after 30 minutes of driving. Is this normal for cold weather? TIA guys

even at 60-70 degree weater my s4 takes a very long time to warm up completly..however, depending on when it was replaced last, you could try to replace the thermostat with a higher tempreature one to prevent it from opening so soon. using thinner oil helps *alot* as well, espically since it's cold enough there to acutaly be taken advantage of, use a 0-30 in the winter, and 5-40 in the warmer months and you'll notice an improvement as well

Its the oil, my grandfather up north uses a light on his porsche, like a heat lamp light, and runs it under the hood onto the oil. Makes the oil not gooey and more like liquid.

Mine took a little longer than normal to warm up today (-7F here), but it does sound like you need to replace the thermostat. It took the oil, seemingly forever, to warm up. And I'm using 0w40.

Do you actually not have heat inside the car or is it just the gauge that's not coming up to temp?

that would be pretty unusual for *both* sensors to go at the same time.

True, but I'm thinkin the oil temp being low could just be a result of the cold as balls temps outside(My oil takes a good bit to warm up now a days too.) and hopefully the low coolant gauge is just a sensor. I'd think thermostat as a worst case scenario versus a 20 dollar sensor.

yeah, you probably got something wrong with with the thermostat.

    I'm assuming ur in C-bus.

my car is taking about 7 mins of driving to warm up, oil temps normal and water temps are normal.

    Re: Cold S4

Thanks guys I figured it was the t-stat so I will check that out. This car is starting to become a pain. Changing the aux water pump with a broken hand was not fun haha. This problem occurred before doing that as well so I know I didn't screw that up. I am driving down to Dallas tomorrow so want to get everything sorted out if possible and I probably won't need the thinner oil down there but I will keep that in mind for the future.
Raj-Are you selling your car??? And I feel like my car doesn't even warm up in 7 minutes in the summer, hmm.
