3.0T S5... when?

i know there have been a few threads that have touched on this, but to pull it all together...

audi has confirmed the S5 will get the 3.0T, but does anybody know if they have confirmed when? originally i heard it would be the 2010my, but now it sounds like in 2010 we'll only see it in the cabs and that 2011my it would make the coupe.

anyone have good info on this? links if possible!

not to burst your buble, but i am pretty sure that the new engine for the S5 will be supercharged, not turbo.... I am pretty sure that the supercharged 3 liter will put out approx 330 hp.

They are calling it the 3.0T, but it is supercharged. A6s have already arrived with the 3.0T engine. Very smooth. Begging for a pulley and reflash.

just found this tidbit, which makes me sad:

S5 Cabriolet 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 specifications:
o S5 Coupe manual and 6-speed Tiptronic 354 hp / 325 lb-ft V8 continue for another year through the end of model year 2010; 2011 S5 Coupe will have 3.0 TFSI supercharger with 333 hp / 325 lb-ft, and manual and 7-speed S tronic transmissions.

Fuel economy and I believe a slightly better torque curve.

peak numbers don't tell the entire story. sure the 4.2 may have slightly higher peak numbers, but the horsepower and torque curves are better in the 3.0T. it translates to the 3.0T being a more powerful motor througout most of the rpm range.

the 3.0T will be more efficient, faster, lighter, and have better weight distrobution for improved handling. Audi still stepped their game up, they just didn't do it exactly how many would have prefered...ie via a V8 or Twin Turbo V6.

Lets face it. The people that bought the S5 are not in the same market for a Prius. I don't think fuel efficiency is going to sell more of these cars then the V8 would.

Personally i would take a naturally aspired motor making the same power over a supercharged one any day of the week.

Or you could just supercharge the V8 and you would really be set :)

I don't think it is so much better fuel economy for the consumer rather it has to do with increased standards by the government. And as a tuner at heart I'm all for the supercharged V6 .

tough call for me. i would love to buy an S5, but if i could get an S5 with similar or better performance AND better gas mileage... well, that makes it an easy choice.

the v8 is awesome, but the new S4 might be slightly more attractive with improved mileage.

you're right though, why not just get the v8 and the supercharger!
