    Best 0-60 setup?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys heres the deal i dont really track my car and need it to be very reliable now that i have a 1 month old daughter...

Most of my play time will be light to light say 0-50 or 10-70mph, you know the type of runs im talking about..

Now i was thinking k04 from gpopshop but wouldnt i be really close in power with a k03s and alot cheaper? And being there really isnt a k03s tune for my 99.5 could i safely run a giac k04 tune with a k03?

    thanks in advance

    Re: Best 0-60 setup?

I still have my agreement with self that the k04 is not really an upgraded turbo IMO (meaning, not really worth it). Maybe a couple years ago, but the options now available for the B5 are much better. I would look into other turbo options. Just my opinion.

A better question is what is your budget? I, myself, just like others would love to have a BT application, but funds are not readily available to spare. And with your newborn (congradulations on your first child), you will come to know of new expenses. Diapers are a killer (you could invest in Indian cloth diaper towels to save money), the child will get sick (it is inevitable) so doctor costs (insurance is a must), etc. I would just get my stock ECU flashed (w/a company that does upgrades such as Unitronics. I went with CTapp), an exhaust (full 3") and hopefully that will keep you suffice till you have dough for a big turbo aplication (GT28r minimum). The money for the k04 and all things included can be added to your BT funds. Or better yet, the "I have a baby now and need to keep money on the side in case............fund."

    Re: Best 0-60 setup?

I had a 99.5 1.8tqm wth a giac 93 program, 3" tp, borla exhaust and ss before i picked this one up... It was fun and all but i really dont wanna go the exact same route again...

And yea gt35r with a 2step would launch like a bat outta hell, but i said reliable and im not looking to build my engine and spend $1000 on a good tune

I honestly think a nice APR setup or maybe an Elim would be your best bet, it will spool better for street driving and you wont have to build your motor

fuck apr i wont spend $4500 to 300hp

As far as an elim setup how much would i be looking at for a tune?

how long would i be out a car waiting for the tune? Does anybody do flash programs on b5's yet for elim kits?

    Re: Best 0-60 setup?

get an eliminator setup. Good bang for the buck. Or get one of those ebay atp manifold, and a 2871r.

Elim setups cost the same to tune as BAT setups. As far as i know, nobody is flashing bt files yet. I would look at asp, ssp, uni, or tapp for tuning. The fastest way to have the least downtime is to: buy a spare ecu and send that out to get flashed. When it gets back then throw all the eliminator shit on.

    Re: Best 0-60 setup?

i agree a k03s and k04 arent really much of an upgrade. when i first got my car and i started looking at k04's i was all excited. after a ton of reading ive settled on a 3076r lol. that may be a little more then you need, but the point is you will get bored of a k04 very fast.

for an elim you can get a unitronics tune for around 4-500 bucks. theres a few other brands that have gt elim tunes as well. even cheaper if you find an ECU in the classifieds ready to go. they are often floating around here. people have been using 28rs, and 2871r eliminators for a while so there are plenty of tunes for them. most companies that do chip tuning have other turbo files as well.

the reason APR is expensive is because they ship to you everything needed to bolt onto the car and drive. its all figured out, theres no headaches, no wondering if you are going to break rods, no tweaking the tune untill it runs perfect. it just runs out of the box. and to some people its worth the extra coin. can you put it together yourself for considerably cheaper? yes- but only if you know how. with the help of some people on these forums and a bit of your own time you can do it yourself and have the same end result, it just takes a bit more work.

    Re: Best 0-60 setup?

I don't care what anyone says, my friend just went pc16 and his car is very fun.

He has a ton of torque down low, and the power holds to ~6500 or so, unlike the k03. If you can get a good deal on a k04 setup then there's really no reason not to do that.

a k04 with k04 software would be faster. However a k03s on k04 software would probably be slower than a k03 becasue the afr would be off and that would rob the hell out of you for power.

i was running KO3 software on a KO4 turbo for a couple months & it ran fine. boosted to 17 give or take IIRC. i finally got the KO4 file for the turbo but now im only boosting to 15psi. so the search is on and has been on for boost.....
i opted to have gpop rebuild my KO3 to KO4 because it was cheap at the time & i needed my car back asap.....
but i have ideas & plans for going a lil bigger but im not in a rush to rebuild the engine :) :)

    Buy someone's used kit.

Whats your price range? You can get a full BT setup (like gt28) for ~2k. Or a ko4 setup for around 1k.

that works because the k04 is only slightly larger then the k03 and the ECU can adjust the fuel a little bit by reading the O2 sensors. it will run just like a k03, you wont get any more power out of it unless you tune it for the k04.

    Re: Best 0-60 setup?

After I got my K03 upgraded to a K04 at gpop there was a noticeable difference because the K04 spools up faster/harder than the K03. I still don't have tuning for it and i put it on in August and it runs fine.

I'm either goin PC-16 or possibly unitronics, not sure if i can make the uni work

either way it wont happen till next summer haha

well the turbine is more aggressive in the K04 than in the K03 and pulls more air through the compressor housing and builds boost faster

well also the car has 155k on the original k03, so i figure instead of waiting for it to die why not replace it now and why not replace it with an upgrade

when i got my pc16 tune, the guy at dsr told me that he saw gains with running pc16 file on k03. people also say a lot of things and i dont know anymore details about it. if you have a small budget go k04 with pc16, its great down low, up top is where it runs out. i loved my setup. i was just tired of losing to most new stock import cars
