15K HiD's TICKET!?!? ahhh

so last week im driving home from work around 6:30pm and since im in the northeast it gets dark out around 4pm
as im driving down the road a lady cop pulls me over and gives me shit about my headlights "they're too bright, can't have purple/blue tint lights on ur vehicle"
i explain to her that i had already gotten a ticket for them and that im appealing it because the box that the hid's came in say DOT approved and that i was waiting on a court date to see what the judge says

so last night as im driving down the same road (coming back from work) she is sitting in the same spot and pulls me over again and wirtes me up for "improper aftermarket headlights" $35

now my question is .. are 15k hid's really illegal up in the northeast? or can i just appeal it again and win the case? i mean they're just headlights!!

I think the law says something like any HID system without and auto leveling system is/are illegal, but I would appeal it anyway, and argue that the actual lumens the higher temp HID kits put out are less than the standard 4300K, making them less bright than standard equipment ones. but you ay still get screwed for color.

I saw something in the recent C&D that PDs have ramped up their ticketing to help deal with budget cuts. For $35 I'd just pay it and move on.

You should have taken a picture in the same direction the car is facing or at least a little to the side, not directly at the car. That picture doesn't show much imo.

Anyway good luck, I'd never rock anything above 6k.

he can turn the screw but the glare will still be there.

I say buy some depos on eBay. Direct plug n play.... I mean plug n fit.
Equipment violations can be wavied if you fix the equipment issue.
If anything pop in a set of standard bulbs and install the HID's when you get projectors.

It may look cool to have those lights but without the proper setup your light beam is just going everywhere.

when i put in my projectors I slapped in some 8k bulbs I had and the light output suck'd. Changed it to 6k and what a difference.!

IMHO anything over 8000K's are dumb.

I know here in the states, if you have HID's, you legally have to have projector lenses. Sure it says "DOT" on the ballast, but that doesn't mean it's legit holmes.

You might as well stick a couple of candles in front of your car.

Maximum should be 6000k, and even they're nowhere as good as OEM 4300k.
Running them without projectors, you deserve to get as many tickets as your glove compartment would hold, probably lose your license too.

i personally hate seeing bluish headlights driving down the road, i cant imagine having to deal with that. plus its rice city utah IMO

kit is $40 PLUS SHIPPING, so about $70 total, still cheap, but VVMEs are either a hit or miss with the ballasts working upon arrival.

Wait and pick up OEM housing and ballasts. You can usually pick up the complete housing assembly with ballast and bulbs for $300-350 out of s4s. Then sell your stock one piece halogens for like 200 bucks.
