    Engine Knocking

I have searched this topic so I don't want to get flamed on but I am worried about the avant. I recently had an oil change done and I just got a service oil light about 3 days ago. There is a knocking sound when the car is idling but you can't hear it when you are driving. There is a whining sound coming from the engine when I get up to about 2500 rpm and above but I believe that is just my turbo giving up. I am more worried about the engine knocking. I searched this and saw that it could be the timing belt tensioner. Btw the knocking is faint but def. audible. Any help is much appreciated.

Sound like what happened to me when I had a bad coil/ and was misfiring. I replaced the coil pack and walahh, no more of that business.

Is the check oil light on? Also any harm done to the engine if I continue to drive with a bad oil pump until I get a new one.

doesn't the CEL come on if you have a misfire which also tells you what cylinder?

I don't have a CEL just the service oil light which turns off after a few minutes or so.

    Re: Engine Knocking

My CEL has been flashing for months ha...and it never specified which cylinder is misfiring. I went through 2 coil packs in a matter of 4 months. The second time it happened is when I got the knocking and extremely low rpms during idling, and no power after 10 mph

If the lcd screen says service oil your milage counter for the mainence light wasn't reset, if you have a pic looking like an oil can you have too low of oil pressure. For the knocking did you check the oil level? Is there smoke coming from the exhaust?
